The Hurricanes enter at 14‑7‑2 overall and 6‑3‑1 in home games. After beating Winnipeg 4–3 in their previous matchup a week ago, Carolina has lost two games in a row. The Canes are in second place in the Metro Division and will try to right the ship in this game. The Jets come in at 12‑10 overall and 6‑5 on the road. They enter this game on a three‑game losing streak. The Jets will try to step up on defense after giving up three goals or more in three straight games.
Winnipeg’s fortunes suffered recently when star netminder Connor Hellebuyck underwent knee surgery and will miss 4–6 weeks. Backup Eric Comrie is expected to start again. Comrie has shown he can hold down the fort, but Winnipeg’s margin for error is thinner without Hellebuyck. Frederik Andersen is expected to start for Carolina after a mediocre start to the season.
Forwards such as Jordan Staal continue to deliver for Carolina. Staal scored twice in the last game against Winnipeg, including a quick goal just 16 seconds in. Seth Jarvis and Andrei Svechnikov regularly add scoring support, while the playmaking of center Sebastian Aho helps fuel their offense. On the Jets side, the top line of Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, and Gabriel Vilardi remains Winnipeg’s best bet for production. But beyond them, scoring has been insufficient to carry the club through tough matchups.
Score Projection: Hurricanes 4 – Jets 2
Win Probability: Hurricanes 60%, Jets 40%
Carolina feels like the safer bet here. They are at home and their depth gives them an edge, and they’ve recently proven capable of squeezing out wins against Winnipeg even when the game is tight. Winnipeg’s offensive output beyond their top line remains unreliable, and missing Hellebuyck makes a road victory more difficult to envision. I'll lay the puckline with Carolina on their home rink.
