The Edmonton Oilers head into a pivotal road matchup in Washington on Wednesday night, taking on the Washington Capitals. This is the fifth game in a row on the road for the Oilers and they will try to improve to 3-2 on their road trip with a win here. Before the puck drops in Washington, continue reading to find my Oilers vs Capitals prediction.
Edmonton (9-8-4) is coming off a lopsided 5-1 loss in Buffalo. The Oilers have split the first four games of their road trip, showing flashes but failing to sustain consistency. Washington (9-8-2) grabbed a win in their last outing, but it was only their third win in 11 games. Washington's defense was dominant in their win over the LA Kings last time out, surrendering just one goal. They will try to do the same to shut down the stars of the Oilers.
Edmonton has leaned heavily on Stuart Skinner, whose goalie metrics remain concerning. His goals-against average is subpar, and his save percentage is a concerning .889. The Capitals will likely roll with Logan Thompson. He has a 1.85 GAA and a .925 save percentage. The Caps have the edge in goal going into this matchup.
The Oilers' attack still revolves around Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Draisaitl leads the Oilers with 13 goals for the season. McDavid is up to 30 points on the season so far, including an impressive 21 assists. The Capitals are led by Tom Wilson, who has 9 goals and 9 assists on the year so far. He will try to make plays to offset any damage done by Draisaitl and McDavid.
Player | Prop Projection |
|---|---|
Connor McDavid | Over 1.5 Points |
Leon Draisaitl | Over 0.5 Goals |
Alex Ovechkin | Over 0.5 Goals |
Score Projection: Capitals 4 – Oilers 2
Win Probability: Capitals 60%, Oilers 40%
I'm going to take the Capitals to win this game on home ice on Wednesday night. Edmonton is just 4-7-2 on the road so far this season. Their struggles away from home should continue here against a Washington team that is superior defensively and from a goaltending point of view. Look for the Caps to get a statement win at home here against McDavid, Draisaitl, and the rest of the Oilers.
