Two teams headed in very different directions meet in Detroit on Thursday night, as the Washington Wizards visit the Detroit Pistons. Washington arrives on short rest after a 132-101 defeat to New York on Tuesday, while Detroit just authored a 130-77 dismantling of Brooklyn that set a franchise record for margin of victory, following that up with a win over the Denver Nuggets. Here, I break down this Eastern Conference matchup and make my Wizards vs Pistons prediction in the NBA.

Game Snapshot
- Matchup: Washington Wizards @ Detroit Pistons

Key Storylines
- Detroit just crushed Brooklyn 130-77 for a record 53-point win, thanks to a defense that ranks near the top in points allowed and defensive rating. They followed that up with a home win over a Nuggets team that had Nikola Jokic back from injury for that contest.
- Cade Cunningham is averaging roughly 25 points and 10 assists with increased efficiency, orchestrating high-value shots for shooters and lobs for Jalen Duren.
- Jalen Duren’s interior presence has blossomed for the Pistons. His offensive rebounding and screen setting are driving efficient pick-and-roll offense and extra possessions.
- Washington is coming off a 132-101 loss to New York on Tuesday and has been vulnerable defensively, with bottom-tier marks in opponent effective field goal percentage and defensive rating.
- Early week move: Detroit added Kevin Huerter, a 37% career three-point shooter, giving Cunningham another perimeter outlet once he is active.
- Washington also made a huge splash in the trade market before the deadline. They traded for Anthony Davis, with that deal and their previous trade for Trae Young completely changing the way the Wizards will look in the near future.
Head-to-Head & Betting Trends
- The Pistons defeated the Wizards by two points in overtime in their first meeting this season.
- ATS records this season: Washington is 21-28, while Detroit is 25-24.
- Totals: Washington is 25-24 to the Over, and Detroit has seen the over go 27-21-1 this year.
Wizards vs Pistons Model Projection
Score Projection: Washington 107 – Detroit 122
Win Probability: Washington 18%, Detroit 82%
Final Thoughts
Detroit is my best bet for this contest against the spread. The Pistons are playing at a much higher level of late, while the Wizards should struggle to overcome having traded away several players to acquire Anthony Davis, who isn't ready to take the floor just yet. Expect the Pistons to run away with this game and for things to be much less suspenseful than the overtime game these teams played in their first meeting of the year.
