Two high-powered guards headline Thursday night in Los Angeles as Tyrese Maxey and the 76ers arrive at Crypto.com Arena to face Luka Dončić, LeBron James, and a Lakers group that just wrapped an eight-game trip with a 5-3 mark. Both of these teams are in the top six in their respective conferences and will try to make a statement with a win here. Before this contest begins from LA, continue reading to get my 76ers vs Lakers prediction in the NBA.
Our 76ers vs Lakers Pick
Pick: Lakers -4.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: 3/5
Game Snapshot
- Matchup: Philadelphia 76ers @ Los Angeles Lakers
- Date & Time: Thursday, February 5, 10:00 PM ET
- Venue: Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles, California
- Broadcast: NBA League Pass
Key Storylines
- Star status and rest: Joel Embiid sat Tuesday for injury management on the back-to-back. If he sits again, Philadelphia’s interior size and rim protection take a hit. If he plays, the foul-drawing pressure on LA’s front line spikes. I would expect Embiid to play here after a day off.
- Paul George suspension: George is serving a 25-game suspension, removing a two-way wing piece that would have checked LeBron and sized up Dončić on switches.
- Lakers getting healthier: Austin Reaves returned this week and should ramp up his minutes as he gets back into action. Even in a limited role, his pick-and-roll playmaking eases the burden on Dončić and LeBron.
- Form guide: Lakers are 30-19 after a 125-109 win in Brooklyn, finishing the trip 5-3 and now beginning a home-heavy stretch. Philadelphia has five straight wins going into this game, including a 128-113 result over the Clippers, with breakout minutes from Dominick Barlow.
- Shot profile edge: Los Angeles ranks near the top of the league in effective field-goal rate and true shooting, aided by Dončić’s creation and a 49.7% team field-goal mark. Philadelphia’s strengths include free throw generation and Maxey’s off-the-dribble threes.
Head-to-Head & Betting Trends
- Past meetings: On December 7, 2025 in Philadelphia, the Lakers defeated the Sixers 112-108. LeBron closed it late while Dončić posted a triple-double, while Maxey led the Sixers’ scoring.
- The Sixers are 29-21 against the spread this season.
- The Lakers enter this matchup at 27-22 against the spread.
- The over is 28-21 in Lakers games this year.
- The Sixers are 26-24 to the over this season.
76ers vs Lakers Model Projection
Score Projection: Philadelphia 114 – Los Angeles 120
Win Probability: Philadelphia 40%, Los Angeles 60%
Final Thoughts
I lean toward the Lakers to win this game and cover the spread on their home floor on Thursday night. The Sixers are red-hot and could certainly continue their winning streak here. But the duo of Doncic and James getting Reaves back to help them is a huge deal and I think that will help the Lakers create some separation late in this contest in LA.
