Game Snapshot
- Matchup: Carolina Hurricanes vs New York Rangers
- Date & Time: Thursday, February 5, 2026, 7:00 PM ET
- Venue: Madison Square Garden, New York
- Broadcast: ESPN+
Key Storylines
- Recent form: The Canes have taken four of their last five games, while the Rangers have lost four of their last five. Carolina has worked its way to the top of the Metropolitan Division, while the Rangers sit in its basement.
- Lineup health: The Rangers have traded Artemi Panarin to the LA Kings, with Adam Fox on injured reserve long term, and Igor Shesterkin sidelined. Carolina’s notable absences include Eric Robinson, and Pyotr Kochetkov remains on injured reserve, but their depth has helped them to overcome all of that.
Goaltending
- Rangers outlook: With Igor Shesterkin unavailable, New York’s crease is likely to be occupied by Jonathan Quick. That downgrades their ceiling in close games where they typically rely on elite shot-stopping to steal points.
- Hurricanes outlook: Carolina has mixed in multiple starters this season and still owns a goals-against average below 3.0 along with a penalty kill just above 80%. Brandon Bussi is likely to start in this contest, as he has had a stellar season after having his workload increased.
Key skaters
- Carolina: Sebastian Aho leads with 57 points and contributes primary assists on a power play converting a touch above 21%. Seth Jarvis paces the club with 25 goals and continues to produce high-danger attempts.
- New York: Mika Zibanejad sits on 23 goals and remains the primary trigger man on the first unit. Panarin led the team in points and assists before being traded, putting more on Vincent Trocheck and Alexis Lafrenière to create.
Betting Trends & H2H

Final Thoughts
Carolina’s depth, special-teams edge, and better offensive play should make the difference against a shorthanded New York team. With the Rangers’ best playmaker gone and their starter in goal sidelined, the margin for error shrinks for the Broadway Blueshirts. I recommend laying the puckline with the Canes in this contest, as they should be able to get the job done once again here.
