The Toronto Blue Jays open a divisional series against the New York Yankees on Monday night at Yankee Stadium with both clubs heading in different directions in the American League East standings. Toronto snapped a rough stretch with a series win in Detroit over the weekend, while New York returns home after a difficult road trip that ended with another late loss against the Mets in the Subway Series going into this Blue Jays vs Yankees matchup.
The Yankees still own one of the best offenses in baseball. Toronto has struggled for consistency offensively, although Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Daulton Varsho, and Kazuma Okamoto have shown signs of life over the past week. Before the first pitch is thrown in the Bronx, you can find my pick for Monday’s series opener below.

Key Storylines
- The Yankees enter the series after dropping three straight series during a difficult road swing. After winning their first game against the rival Mets on Friday, the Yankees lost on Saturday and Sunday and will try to turn things around here.
- Toronto remains below .500 and badly needs divisional wins to stay within striking distance in the AL East race. Toronto took two out of three games against the Detroit Tigers over the weekend, with their pitching staff holding Detroit to five runs in those three games.
- The Blue Jays bullpen has been stretched thin after several close games during the past week.
- New York owns one of the best home offensive splits in the American League and will try to use that to their advantage to get back into the win column.
Pitching Matchup
Patrick Corbin enters with a respectable 3.93 ERA for the Blue Jays. The Yankees have handled left-handed pitching well this season thanks to their right-handed power bats. Corbin has allowed 38 hits in 34.1 innings, and his strikeout rate remains modest. If he falls behind in counts, the Yankees have enough power to create damage quickly in the middle innings.
Ryan Weathers has been one of the more surprising early contributors for New York. The left-hander carries a 3.00 ERA with 54 strikeouts and a 1.11 WHIP across 45 innings. His ability to limit free passes has helped stabilize a Yankees rotation dealing with injuries to Gerrit Cole, Max Fried, and Clarke Schmidt. Toronto has produced a .242 team batting average, but the lineup still lacks consistent power production outside of a small group of hitters.
Key Players
- Aaron Judge: Continues to rank among the league leaders in home runs, slugging percentage, and OPS.
- Paul Goldschmidt: Veteran first baseman has delivered timely run production in the middle of the Yankees lineup.
- Ben Rice: Emerging bat providing power and extra-base hits for New York.
- Vladimir Guerrero Jr.: Hitting .286 with a .373 OBP and remains Toronto’s most dangerous overall hitter.
- Kazuma Okamoto: Has supplied needed power for the Blue Jays with 10 home runs.

Toronto Blue Jays vs New York Yankees Model Projection
- Score Projection: Blue Jays 3 – Yankees 6
- Win Probability: Blue Jays 36%, Yankees 64%
While the Yankees have stumbled during the past week, this spot sets up well for a bounce-back performance at home. Ryan Weathers has delivered quality innings throughout the first part of the season, and New York should have opportunities against Patrick Corbin once the lineup turns over a second time. The Yankees also remain far more dangerous offensively, especially in Yankee Stadium. I will lay the runline with the Yankees in this contest, as I make this a 2-3 run win for New York in my projections.
