The Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies square off Wednesday evening at Citizens Bank Park with a classic pitching duel setting the tone. Phillies ace Zack Wheeler (8-1, 2.03 ERA) has been virtually unhittable this season, while Pirates sensation Paul Skenes (6-7, 3.10 ERA) has shown flashes of brilliance with 114 strikeouts in 93 innings. Before those aces face off in an in-state rivalry game, we’ve got you covered with our Pirates vs Phillies prediction on the diamond.
Our Pittsburgh vs Philadelphia Prediction
- Pick: Philadelphia Phillies -1.5
- Confidence: 4/5
Pirates vs Phillies Model Projection
- Score Projection: Pittsburgh 3 – Philadelphia 6
- Win Probability: Pittsburgh 32%, Philadelphia 68%
Our model paints a picture of Philadelphia pulling away in the late innings, thanks in part to Wheeler’s dominance and a patient, powerful Phillies lineup. Pittsburgh’s lineup was shut out by the Phillies yesterday and, given Wheeler’s elite performance this year and Philadelphia’s superior run differential at home, we expect the Phillies to cover the runline and win convincingly.

Pittsburgh vs Philadelphia Same Game Parlay
- Phillies Moneyline (-136): Philadelphia is the stronger team at home with a dominant pitcher leading them in this contest.
- Over 8 total runs (-109): Both offenses are potent enough (especially PHI) that a 9+ run game is likely in a Phillies win.
- Paul Skenes Over 7.5 strikeouts (+122): Skenes averages 11.0 K/9 this year. Despite the loss, he still struck out 7 in 5 innings on June 26, so he should hit 7+ Ks over a typical outing.
- Total Parlay Odds: +900
This 3-leg parlay connects Philadelphia’s moneyline, a high-scoring game, and Skenes’ strikeout prop. The justification is that Philadelphia’s bats should push the total runs high, and Skenes has the strikeout prowess to clear 7.5 in this matchup, making the combined odds appealing.
Pittsburgh vs Philadelphia Home Run Prop
Bryce Harper 1+ home run (+322): Harper has been on fire for the Phillies, driving in 3 runs in the first 2 games of this series, and hitting a home run in the series opener. While home runs could be hard to come by early in this game when the starters are involved, Harper should be able to break out against the Pittsburgh bullpen at some point.
Betting Trends & H2H
- Season Series (2026): The Phillies are 4-1 against the Pirates so far this season.
- Home/Away Records: Philadelphia is 24-20 at home, Pittsburgh is 20-21 on the road.
- Run Line (ATS) Records: Phillies 32-54-0, Pirates 43-43.
- Over/Under Records: Phillies 37-44-5, Pirates 49-34-3.
Stat Comparison
| Stat | Pittsburgh | Philadelphia |
|---|---|---|
| Batting Average | .258 | .237 |
| OPS | .754 | .706 |
| wOBA | .333 | .310 |
| wRC+ | 108 | 93 |
| Team ERA | 4.22 | 4.10 |
| xFIP | 4.09 | 3.54 |
The Pirates have been the more impressive offensive team overall this season, but the Phillies have the advantage in the pitching department. While Skenes will help the Pirates hang around for a while in this matchup, he hasn’t been quite as effective this year as he was last season. That should be enough for the Phillies to build a slight lead and to blow the game open once the Pirates bullpen gets involved. I’ll lay the runline with Philly in this all-Pennsylvania matchup.
