The first series of the 2026 MLB season between two American League division winners has already delivered fireworks at T-Mobile Park. Game 3 on Saturday promises more of the same. Cleveland took the opener 6-4 on Opening Night behind two home runs from Chase DeLauter, only for Seattle to respond in Game 2 with a 5-1 victory behind a sharp George Kirby outing. With the series knotted at one game apiece heading into Saturday’s game, continue reading to get my analysis and my Guardians vs Mariners prediction.

Key Storylines
Pitching Matchup
Bryan Woo takes the hill for Seattle in what is his first regular-season start of 2026. Woo went 15-7 with a 2.94 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP across 30 starts in 2025, finishing fifth in Cy Young Award voting. He induced 11 whiffs in his final spring training start, including 6 on his four-seam fastball alone, and finished with 52 strikes on just 73 pitches. Manager Dan Wilson noted after that outing that Woo showed extreme focus and intent on the mound, which is exactly the kind of language you want to hear heading into a season debut.
Cleveland’s pitching situation rides on Joey Cantillo, who will get the start in this matchup. Cantillo started in 13 of his 34 appearances for the Guardians last season and had an ERA of 3.21, which he will look to improve upon during the 2026 season.
Key Players
Chase DeLauter has been the breakout story of this series, homering in three consecutive at-bats across the first two games, becoming the fifth player in Cleveland franchise history to go deep in his first major league plate appearance. He has been the main offensive bright spot for a Guardians lineup that ranked 28th in runs scored in 2025.
For Seattle, the most consequential bat is Jose Ramirez on the visiting side and Cal Raleigh on their side. Ramirez, the seven-time All-Star, drove in 2 runs in the opener and carries a career 1.462 OPS in 13 plate appearances against George Kirby. Raleigh, who smashed a record 60 home runs in 2025 to finish runner-up for AL MVP, went 0-for-4 with 4 strikeouts in Game 2 and will be motivated to get on the board at home. Julio Rodriguez, Brendan Donovan, and Randy Arozarena round out a lineup that posted a .740 OPS in 2025 compared to Cleveland’s .670 OPS.
Guardians vs Mariners Model Projection
- Score Projection: Cleveland 3 – Seattle 5
- Win Probability: Cleveland 40%, Seattle 60%
Saturday’s game comes down to one central question: can Cleveland’s offense generate enough scoring against one of the best starters in the American League while managing the pitching uncertainty of their own? Bryan Woo is coming off back-to-back sub-3.00 ERA seasons, and his spring training velocity and whiff numbers suggest he arrives sharp. The Mariners’ lineup, which posted a massive offensive advantage over Cleveland in 2025, is due to string together hits beyond solo home runs, and Woo’s ability to keep the ball in the park gives Seattle an excellent chance to manufacture a multi-run lead.
Instead of taking either side in this game, I’m going to take the over at the current total of seven runs. At least one team has scored five runs in each of the first two games of this series and we should see another entertaining affair in this contest, as both teams look to improve to 2-1 with a win.
