The Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox meet Saturday night with the American League Central race still tightly packed. Cleveland enters at 58-59 after an emphatic 8-2 victory over Chicago on Friday, while the White Sox sit at 59-56 and remain in first place in the division. The Guardians have the clearer pitching advantage with Gavin Williams on the mound, and that edge is enough to make the total more appealing than laying the price on Cleveland's moneyline. With both teams having played a large number of close games this season, a lower-scoring contest is my preferred angle at Rate Field.
The pitching matchup is the biggest reason to lean toward Cleveland and the under. Williams has been one of the Guardians' more dependable starters this season, carrying an 11-6 record with a 3.56 ERA, 178 strikeouts and a 1.04 WHIP across 139 innings. His strikeout ability gives Cleveland a strong chance of limiting Chicago's lineup, particularly if he can avoid the traffic that has occasionally extended his innings.
Anthony Kay has not been as dominant, but his 4.01 ERA over 110 innings is respectable enough to keep Chicago competitive. The White Sox also have a strong home record, making a Cleveland wager less attractive. Cleveland's offense has shown signs of life after scoring 8 runs Friday, but the club has generally struggled to produce consistently. Steven Kwan has been an important exception, entering Saturday with a seven-game hitting streak and a .400 batting average over his last 10 games. Chase DeLauter has also been productive recently, hitting .368 over his last five games while drawing 6 walks.
Our model projects 7 total runs, giving the under the nod. The first game of this series produced 10 runs, but Williams is a considerably stronger starting pitcher than the arm Chicago used Friday. Cleveland also has the advantage of a starter capable of missing bats, while Kay's ability to limit damage should give the White Sox a chance to keep this game within a few runs. The projected 4-3 Cleveland victory makes Under 8 our preferred wager rather.

Williams brings the stronger statistical track record into Saturday's game. The right-hander is 11-6 with a 3.56 ERA and 1.04 WHIP, and his 178 strikeouts over 139 innings highlight the swing-and-miss ability that can suppress Chicago's scoring opportunities. Williams has also given Cleveland a reliable workload, which is particularly useful after Friday's game required multiple relievers.
Kay enters with an 8-5 record and a 4.01 ERA over 110 innings. His 1.35 WHIP is considerably higher than Williams' mark, but Kay has still provided Chicago with enough innings to reduce the strain on the bullpen. Cleveland hitters will need to take advantage of opportunities rather than relying on one big inning.
There are some interesting individual hitter matchups. Miguel Vargas leads Chicago with 99 hits and owns a .234 average, .341 OBP and .468 slugging percentage. Chase Meidroth is hitting .274 with a .351 OBP. Munetaka Murakami has supplied much of Chicago's power with 25 home runs and 60 walks.
For Cleveland, DeLauter is batting .280 with a .356 OBP and .439 slugging percentage. Kwan leads the club with a .365 OBP and has been especially productive lately. José Ramírez has had a quieter season by his standards, batting .234 with 10 home runs, but his ability to change a game with one swing remains important.
The market has moved toward Cleveland while keeping the total relatively modest, which fits with the pitching matchup. Chicago's home record makes the White Sox dangerous, but Williams gives Cleveland the better starting pitcher and should help prevent Friday's offensive output from carrying into Saturday. With our model projecting only 7 runs, Under 7.5 offers the best combination of price and protection.
