The problem is that Michigan law only allows advance-deposit wagering (ADW) if there’s an active, licensed racetrack in the state. That requirement has sparked recent court cases and debate about how it fits with the federal Interstate Horseracing Act of 1978.

For now, ADW betting is still available, but the situation isn’t fully settled.

Daily Fantasy Sports

Daily fantasy sports are legal and regulated here. Michigan passed the Fantasy Contests Consumer Protection Act in December 2019, giving the MGCB the job of licensing operators.

DraftKings, FanDuel, and Underdog are all approved to run paid contests where players can win real money. The one thing the MGCB doesn’t allow is Pick’em-style games, since they’re considered too close to traditional prop betting in sports.
