AC Milan vs Atalanta Prediction: Back Milan at San Siro

Updated October 16, 2026

Ruben Amorim’s AC Milan host Maurizio Sarri’s Atalanta at San Siro on Sunday (12 PM ET). Kalshi has Milan at 55¢ to win, with Atalanta at 21¢ and the draw at 26¢. Milan are unbeaten through six Serie A games, while Atalanta have won three and lost three.
Atalanta’s recent record in this fixture is keeping their price shorter than their form justifies. They’re unbeaten in their last six league meetings with Milan, but they rank 18th in Serie A for expected points and have conceded the fourth-most xG. Milan have the third-best defense by xG against and have won both home games without conceding.
Our model sees a 3% edge on Milan to win at 55¢.

ATS Expert Verdict

“Atalanta have nine points from 4.24 expected points. Their defense has given up 13.39 xG in six games, and they’ve allowed 5.39 fewer goals than that. Milan create more, concede less and are at home. I'm backing Milan at 55¢ even with the head-to-head record against them.”
Atalanta’s league position flatters them
Atalanta are 10th with nine points, but their 4.24 xPTS ranks 18th in Serie A. Only Cagliari and Lazio have outperformed their expected points by more. The defense explains most of it. Atalanta have given up 13.39 xG, the fourth-worst figure in the league, yet conceded only eight. Negative regression is on its way.
Sarri’s Atalanta don’t press
For years Atalanta were the most aggressive pressing side in Italy. Under Sarri, their PPDA is 18.67, the second-most passive in Serie A. Opponents get time on the ball, which partly explains the shots against. Milan’s midfield, with Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot in the middle, is exactly the type that punishes a team that doesn’t close down.
Milan’s home form backs the price
Milan have won both home league games without conceding, 3-0 against Lecce and 2-0 against Venezia. Their 7.26 xGA ranks third in Serie A, and their 10.67 xPTS ranks sixth, close to their actual 12 points. Atalanta have lost both away games, at Roma and Juventus, scoring once. Blending Kalshi’s prices with the season xG, the ATS Quantitative Model has Milan winning 58% of the time against a 55¢ price.

The gap between these sides is much wider than the table shows. Milan create 1.93 xG per game and allow 1.21. Atalanta create 1.13 and allow 2.23, which is closer to a relegation side’s numbers than a European one’s.
Milan’s results line up closely with their xG, while Atalanta’s rely on conceding far less than their chances suggest.
Atalanta’s attack is the bigger concern. Their 6.76 xG is fourth-lowest in Serie A, and they’ve only got to eight goals through finishing above their chances.
Nikola Krstovic has three of those, two of them against Venezia. Away at Roma and Juventus they managed one goal combined.
Amorim has set Milan up in a 3-4-2-1, with Gila, De Winter and Pavlovic in a back three and Chukwueze and Estupinan as wing-backs. Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot run the midfield, while Christian Pulisic and Cisse play between the lines behind Goncalo Ramos.
Against a side that sits off the ball, Modric will have time to pick his passes. Milan’s wide players should get plenty of one-on-ones too, especially with Atalanta’s full-backs left exposed.
The risk is the space behind those wing-backs. Atalanta have hurt Milan with quick transitions in recent meetings, and Chukwueze and Estupinan both push high.
If Atalanta win the ball in midfield, De Ketelaere and Rowe will look to attack the gaps before Milan’s back three can shift across.
Sarri has changed Atalanta’s identity. They play a possession-based 4-3-3 now, with Ederson, Gaetano and Pasalic in midfield and Krstovic leading the line between De Ketelaere and Rowe.
They don’t press the way they used to, and their 18.67 PPDA is the second-most passive in Serie A. That’s a big reason they’re giving up so many shots.
Injuries have hit the back line hardest. Isak Hien and Odilon Kossounou are both out, and Giorgio Scalvini is a doubt, so Kolasinac and Kristensen are expected to start in the middle.
Atalanta’s best route is to keep it tight, limit Milan’s chances and rely on set pieces and Krstovic’s finishing. That plan has worked for six games, but the underlying numbers suggest it’s unlikely to hold for 90 minutes at San Siro.
