Updated October 29, 2026

Four days after a 2-2 draw in the Carabao Cup, Manchester City and Brighton meet again at the Etihad, and this time there are Premier League points on offer.
Enzo Maresca made nine changes, and it took two shootout saves from Geronimo Rulli to get City through. Haaland, Donnarumma, Dias, Gvardiol and Anderson all come back in on Saturday, and the price has moved with them.
City are 59¢ on prediction markets, up from 54¢ for the cup tie. Brighton are still the second-most dangerous attack in the division by xG, though. This output paired with an underperforming City defence support the ATS Quantitative Model's +3% edge on backing Brighton +1.5 at 64¢.

The price undersells Brighton's attack
Prediction market prices imply Brighton score about 1.3 goals on Saturday. They've averaged 2.26 xG per game this season and 1.88 on the road, and they take 18.1 shots a game, more than City's 14.6. Pascal Gross has 3.54 xA from midfield, and Charalampos Kostoulas has scored in three of the last five league games. Even at Anfield on Sunday, a game they lost 2-0, Brighton edged the xG 1.31 to 1.28.
City's back line gives chances away at home
City are unbeaten at the Etihad in the league, but they've allowed 1.67 xG per home game, and Sunderland put up 3.11 xG there in a 5-3 thriller. They've conceded seven goals in their last five league games. Wednesday's cup tie was against a rotated City, but Hurzeler's side still created more than enough to win, boasting 2.03 xG to City's 0.76. Expect them to keep creating high-quality chances against City this Saturday.

“City should be favorites with Haaland back, and I'm not arguing that. But Brighton have gone toe to toe with them twice in recent meetings and can create chances against anyone. I'll take the two-goal cushion and let City prove they can pull away.”

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Erling Haaland | Man City | 9 | 0 | 7.04 | 1.74 | 0.51 |

Charalampos Kostoulas | Brighton | 3 | 2 | 3.02 | 0.24 | 0.78 |
Maxim De Cuyper | Brighton | 2 | 2 | 1.81 | 1.82 | 2.38 |
On the underlying numbers, City deserve to be top. They lead the league with 18.92 xG and 17.02 expected points, and their open-play chances are high quality at 0.18 xG per shot, against Brighton's 0.13. The Villa defeat was harsh, with City creating 2.29 xG to Villa's 0.65.
Brighton are almost level on attack, with 18.10 xG, and their 23 goals lead the league. Their defensive record flatters them a little: 7 goals conceded from 11.41 xGA. They're still dangerous from dead balls, with 6.53 xG from corners and set pieces, roughly double City's 3.21, and four goals from corners already.
At player level, Haaland has 9 goals from 7.04 xG and takes 3.8 shots per 90. Rayan Cherki creates 3.2 key passes per 90 and Jeremy Doku 0.86 xA per 90, so City's supply line is strong. For Brighton, Gross has 3 goals and 4 assists, and Maxim De Cuyper has 1.82 xA from the left.
Fitted to Polymarket's moneyline, our goals model starts at about 2.25 goals for City and 1.3 for Brighton. Moving Brighton toward their season averages and nudging City down slightly gives roughly 2.15 to 1.55. That keeps City as clear favorites at 52% to win, but City by two or more drops to 33%.
Maresca's 4-2-3-1 is back to full strength, with Haaland leading the line, Cherki in the No. 10 role, and Doku and Iliman Ndiaye wide. Doku changed Wednesday's game after coming off the bench, and he'll be targeting Brighton's right side, especially if Ferdi Kadioglu misses out and Costinha starts.
Brighton won't change their approach. Hurzeler's side press high, commit numbers forward and look to win the ball in City's half. That worked against a reshuffled City back line on Wednesday. Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and Marc Guehi coming back makes it much harder.
The game will be decided in midfield. Enzo Fernandez and Elliot Anderson have to stop Gross dictating from deep, because when he gets time Brighton's wide players and runners from midfield flood the box.
Expect goals at both ends. Brighton have scored in three of their four away league games, and City at home have rarely kept things tight.
