The New York Rangers head into their Saturday matinee against the Philadelphia Flyers seeking answers after a challenging stretch, while the Flyers are desperate to halt a five‑game skid of their own in this Metropolitan Division affair. With both teams underperforming relative to preseason expectations and carrying recent struggles into this meeting, this game could go either way in Philly. Before the action begins, you will find my analysis and my Rangers vs Flyers prediction here.
Pick: | Over 6.5 ATS PRO |
Confidence: | 3/5 |
Philadelphia enters this game on the back of a five‑game losing streak, during which they have struggled to consistently limit opponent scoring. Against Buffalo just two nights ago, they were beaten 5‑2, and a 6‑3 defeat at the hands of Pittsburgh in the following game was the result of breakdowns in defensive coverage and goaltending instability. The Flyers' scoring has been present, led by the likes of Trevor Zegras and Owen Tippett. But defensive lapses have overshadowed any offensive output they generate.
New York’s recent stretch has been difficult as well, with the Rangers losing five straight games, most of which have come by significant margins. New York is sitting below .500 in the standings. A recent 10‑2 defeat to Boston underscored their current struggles and intensified pressure within the organization.
Philadelphia’s goaltending situation has been a point of focus, with Samuel Ersson set to play in this contest. He has a woeful 3.43 GAA on the season and will have ot step things up for the Flyers to win at home. For the Rangers, top netminder Igor Shesterkin remains out with a lower‑body injury, and Jonathan Quick has taken on the bulk of the goaltending duties with mixed results.
Artemi Panarin has led the Rangers offensively with strong assist numbers and scoring production, while Mika Zibanejad has contributed timely goals as well. On the Flyers' side, Trevor Zegras leads the club in both goals and points, and Owen Tippett has been a consistent scoring threat. Philadelphia’s power play has underperformed relative to league average, but talent across their forward lines could finally break through against a Rangers defense that has surrendered dangerous chances often in recent weeks.
Score Projection: Flyers 4 – Rangers 3 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Rangers 38%, Flyers 62% ATS PRO
Both of these teams are playing some terrible hockey of late. As a result, I have my eye on the total instead of one side or the other. I'll take the over in this game, as the Rangers' defense has been horrible of late and that trend should continue in Philly in what should be a high-scoring game.
