Key Storylines
Recent form
- Florida is 3-2 in their last five games. They had a three-game winning streak snapped in their most recent outing against the Utah Mammoth and will try to bounce back here.
- The Blues have dropped five straight games and they sit at the bottom of the Central Division standings. St. Louis has the second-worst goal differential in the NHL, sitting ahead of only the Vancouver Canucks in that department.
Goaltending
- Panthers: Sergei Bobrovsky comes into this game at 20-15-1 with a 3.08 goals-against average and a .874 save percentage. He is expected to get the nod again in this game after taking a loss to the Mammoth last time out.
- Blues: Joel Hofer enter this game at 11-10-3 with a 2.78 goals-against average, .902 save percentage, and 4 shutouts. St. Louis has often leaned on Hofer in January after multiple strong starts, and he has been decent despite the lack of winning being done by the Blues.
Key skaters
- Florida leaders: Sam Reinhart is leading the Panthers with 26 goals and 50 points. Carter Verhaeghe has 25 assists to lead Florida. Matthew Tkachuk has returned to action and adds a high-volume scorer on the right side for the two-time defending champs.
- St. Louis leaders: Robert Thomas has 33 points this season, but remains on injured reserve. Jake Neighbours leads the team with 12 goals and is listed as day-to-day. Jordan Kyrou is also day-to-day, as injuries are impacting several of the top contributors for the Blues going into this matchup.
Betting Trends & H2H
- Season series: St. Louis leads 1-0 after a 6-2 win in Florida on December 20.
- The Panthers are 14-10-0 on the road going into this matchup.
- St. Louis enters Thursday's play with a 12-10-6 record on home ice.
- The Blues are 26-26 on the puckline heading into this contest.
- Florida is just 19-32 on the puckline this season.
Panthers vs Blues Model Projection
Score Projection: Florida Panthers 4 – St. Louis Blues 2
Win Probability: Florida Panthers 58%, St. Louis Blues 42%
Final Thoughts
Florida’s depth, special teams edge, and healthier forward group should outweigh St. Louis’ home-ice advantage. The Blues can stay in this game if Hofer stands on his head, but Thomas being out removes their best distributor. Florida should control this game and come away with the win. But I lean toward the over more than anything else here, as the Blues have allowed four goals or more in back-to-back games.
