The NBA spotlight shifts to Los Angeles with a high-profile Western Conference clash between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Lakers. Oklahoma City arrives with the league’s best record and a road resume that has traveled well all year, while the Lakers counter with elite star power and a strong home record. Both teams are missing their top stars due to injuries, which makes this game an interesting one to try to predict. Here, I break down this matchup and give you my Thunder vs Lakers prediction in the NBA.
Our Thunder vs Lakers Pick
Pick: Thunder -6.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: 3/5
Game Snapshot
- Matchup: Oklahoma City Thunder @ Los Angeles Lakers
- Date & Time: Monday, February 9, 2026, 10:00 PM ET
- Venue: Arena, Los Angeles, California
- Broadcast: Peacock
Key Storylines
- The Thunder have the best record in the NBA this season, while the Lakers are in fifth place in the Western Conference. Both teams are highly motivated to get a win here to not only improve their seeding prospects ahead of the playoffs, but to make a statement in what could be a preview of an upcoming Western Conference playoff series.
- No star duel: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander enters at 31.8 PPG and 6.4 APG, while Luka Dončić paces L.A. at 32.8 PPG and 8.6 APG. But they are both going to be out of this game due to injuries, which will mean that LeBron James will lead the Lakers and Jalen Williams will do the same for the Thunder.
- Interior battle: Chet Holmgren’s rim protection against Deandre Ayton’s glass work will swing second-chance scoring in one direction or the other. Holmgren has been much more effective overall, but a big game from Ayton could change that.
- Rest and travel: Both teams play on one day off after Saturday games, with OKC flying in from home and the Lakers remaining in L.A.
Head-to-Head & Betting Trends

Thunder vs Lakers Model Projection
Score Projection: Oklahoma City 118 – Los Angeles 110
Win Probability: Oklahoma City 58%, Los Angeles 42%
Final Thoughts
Both sides have elite headliners out, but Oklahoma City’s steadier defense, stronger road results, and ability to win the non-star stretches point me to the visitors in a tight game. If L.A. gets a near-full workload from Austin Reaves and LeBron and piles up free throws, the Lakers can absolutely flip this script. Short of that, OKC’s two-way edge wins out. I’m backing the Thunder to cover the number as a road favorite.
