Marcio Barbosa enters UFC Sacramento as one of the biggest favorites on the card, but the matchup with Ryan Kuse is more interesting than the moneyline alone suggests. Barbosa is coming off a UFC debut knockout victory, while Kuse steps in as a late replacement and makes his UFC Octagon debut after building a 9-2 professional MMA record. Here, I break down this fight and make my Marcio Barbosa vs Ryan Kuse prediction in the betting markets.
Statistic | Marcio Barbosa | Ryan Kuse |
|---|---|---|
Age | 28 | 32 |
Height | 5'6" | 5'9" |
Reach | 70.5" | 74" |
Record | 18-2 | 9-2 |
Kuse is taller, longer, and has experience fighting at both bantamweight and featherweight. Barbosa, however, owns the far more imposing finishing résumé. He has 15 knockout victories and 17 professional first-round finishes. He has also won 8 of his last 9 fights, with his last loss coming in 2022.
Barbosa's most recent performance is the clearest indicator of why oddsmakers have installed him as such a heavy favorite. In April, he stopped Dennis Buzukja with a counter left hook at just 1:20 of the opening round.
But thanks to all of those early finishes, Barbosa has rarely been forced to fight deep into contests. He has gone beyond the 1st round only 3 times as a professional and has reached the judges' scorecards only once in 19 professional fights. That makes him somewhat difficult to evaluate over 15 minutes, but it also tells bettors exactly where his greatest advantage lies.
Kuse has built his career largely in regional promotions and enters the UFC with a 9-2 MMA record. He has 6 knockout victories, 1 submission, and 3 decision wins, while his 2 losses have both come by decision. His recent form is positive, having defeated Kevin Natividad by unanimous decision in October 2025 before stopping Leandro Camargo with punches in April 2026.
Kuse also competed at Karate Combat in July, beating Shad Walters at Karate Combat 62. That fight was outside his MMA record, but it means he has remained active heading into Sacramento.
The biggest issue for Kuse is the timing of his UFC opportunity. He was brought in after Danny Silva withdrew from the fight because of a serious medical emergency, leaving Kuse to accept the matchup on short notice. That matters because Barbosa had been preparing for a different opponent, and Kuse has had limited time to build a UFC-specific strategy.
While Kuse deserves credit for jumping into this fight on short notice, I don't think that's going to help him in the Octagon at all. Barbosa should keep his winning streak going, scoring another opening-round knockout as he looks to continue to turn heads early in his time with the UFC.
