The New York Yankees head into Friday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays looking to steady themselves after a surprising stumble against the Athletics. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Rays return home aiming to end a two-game losing streak of their own. The Yankees are in first place in the AL East, but both of these teams have proven that anything can happen when they take the field already this year. Before this series opener from Tampa begins, continue reading to get my Yankees vs Rays prediction.

Key Storylines
- The Yankees entered the week 7-2 but just dropped two straight games, scoring only 2 total runs in their consecutive losses to the Athletics.
- The Rays were playing .500 ball before dropping their last two games to the Chicago Cubs.
- New York is dealing with major rotation absences but is still getting solid early results overall despite arms like Gerrit Cole not being available.
- The Yankees are 5-1 on the road this season and will try to take advantage of being back on the road here.
Pitching Matchup
- Luis Gil makes his season debut for New York, bringing upside but also uncertainty after missing the first couple of turns in the rotation.
- Steven Matz enters at 2-0 with a 4.09 ERA across 11 innings. He is off to a decent start here and will try to keep that going against a very good Yankees lineup.
Key Players
- Aaron Judge continues to anchor the Yankees' lineup with three home runs to begin the season.
- Ben Rice has emerged as a strong secondary bat with a .324 average and a team-high 11 RBI.
- Jonathan Aranda leads the Rays in RBI with 11 heading into this contest. He also leads the Rays with three home runs.
- Chandler Simpson is batting .391 early in the season for the Rays and he will try to continue his strong start in this game against a division rival.
Recent Team Streaks
- Both teams have lost two games in a row going into this matchup.
- The Yankees have lost three of their last four games.
Betting Trends & H2H
- This is the first meeting of the season between the Yankees and Rays.
- The under is 6-4-2 in Yankees games this season.
- The Rays are 8-2-2 to the over entering Friday's action.
Yankees vs Bay Rays Model Projection
- Score Projection: Yankees 4 - Rays 5
- Win Probability: Yankees 46%, Rays 54%
My best bet for this contest is for the Rays to get a win at home on Friday night. While the Yankees' lineup is always dangerous, the Rays have a better starting pitching situation in this game and that should help them to slow down New York's bats in this spot. Expect a tight game, but for the Rays to pull it out in the end.
