The 2026 MLB season opens with a National League West showdown as the Arizona Diamondbacks visit the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night. With expectations high on both sides this year, this early-season clash is full of star power, particularly on the mound. The Dodgers enter as heavy favorites at home after a dominant 2025 campaign, while Arizona looks to overcome injuries and recent struggles against their division rival. Here, I break down the game and bring you my Diamondbacks vs Dodgers prediction in the betting markets.

- Confidence: 4 out of 5

- Date & Time: Thursday, March 26, 2026, 8:30 PM ET

Key Storylines
- Los Angeles opens the season at home after finishing with one of the best records in baseball and winning the World Series over the Toronto Blue Jays.
- Arizona enters with multiple injury concerns, including position players like Lourdes Gurriel and Ketel Marte.
- The Dodgers have dominated recent head-to-head meetings and remain strong favorites around -267.
- Arizona finished two games under .500 last season and will try to move up in the standings after finishing fourth in the NL West last year.
Pitching Matchup
- Zac Gallen takes the ball for Arizona after a 2025 season with 13 wins and 175 strikeouts. If the D-Backs want to contend with the Dodgers this season, they are going to need Gallen and their other starting arms to step up.
- Gallen posted an ERA above 4.80 last season, showing some inconsistency against strong lineups.
- Yoshinobu Yamamoto will get the start for the Dodgers on Opening Day. He helped lead the Dodgers to the title last season on the mound, ranking fourth in MLB in ERA at 2.49 and continuing to step things up in the playoffs.
Key Players
- Shohei Ohtani leads the Dodgers after a 55-home run season with over 100 RBI
- Freddie Freeman continues to provide consistent production with a batting average near .300
- Corbin Carroll is Arizona’s primary offensive threat, and he will be a key figure for them as he tries to battle his way back from an injury-plagued 2025.
Diamondbacks vs Dodgers Model Projection
- Score Projection: Arizona Diamondbacks 3 - Los Angeles Dodgers 6
- Win Probability: Arizona Diamondbacks 34%, Los Angeles Dodgers 66%
The numbers strongly favor Los Angeles entering this opener. The Dodgers bring a deeper lineup, stronger recent seasons, and a clear home-field advantage into this contest. Their pitching staff remains reliable and capable of limiting Arizona’s scoring chances, especially with a legitimate ace in Yamamoto on the hill. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks face questions with both injuries and inconsistent pitching depth, which could be exposed against one of baseball’s most dangerous offenses.
Gallen gives Arizona a chance if he can find early rhythm, but facing a lineup anchored by elite hitters is a difficult task for even the best pitchers in baseball. Los Angeles consistently generates runs and has shown an ability to capitalize on weaker bullpens, an area where Arizona may struggle given current roster limitations. I am going to lay the runline with the Dodgers, who should start their season on the right foot here.
