COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Oregon State opened the season with a strong offensive showing, scoring 102 points in its first game while shooting 49.2% from the field, 37.5% from three, and 85.3% at the line. Its KenPom profile also supports that start, with a strong offensive rating and a positive net rating. The Beavers’ rebounding total of 54 also signals a team that can extend possessions and overwhelm weaker opponents on the glass. Cal Baptist’s first-game box score was much less efficient: 63 points, 35.0% shooting, 14.8% from three, and 71 points allowed. The Lancers did show a decent free throw rate and a respectable 77.3% from the stripe, but their offense needs major improvement to match Oregon State’s pace and shot quality. The one area that can help Cal Baptist is the glass, where it posted 31 rebounds and can at least try to limit Oregon State’s second-chance scoring.
Oregon State is the better team statistically, but the market has pushed its moneyline so far that the only playable value is on Cal Baptist to pull the upset. The Beavers have the superior efficiency profile, more balanced scoring, and a better defensive baseline, yet the projected score still keeps this close enough for a narrow Lancers win. Final projection: Cal Baptist Lancers 71, Oregon St Beavers 70.
