Pick: England to win ATS PRO
Confidence: 4/5
England arrive with a powerful batting order featuring the likes of Phil Salt and Jos Buttler, and a bowling attack capable of taking plenty of wickets in a T20 setting. They went undefeated in their recent Sri Lanka T20 series, showcasing strong form and confidence heading into India. Their batters have consistently posted high totals and their bowling unit has shown aptitude across all phases of the game. England’s white-ball unit is one of the deepest in international cricket, combining aggressive openers with finishers and bowlers who can operate effectively in Indian conditions.
Nepal is captained by Rohit Paudel and has been one of the stories of the tournament’s build-up. They qualified by topping the Asia & EAP regional group and have impressed in warm-ups with convincing victories, including a chase against Canada and a win over UAE. Players such as Dipendra Singh Airee, Kushal Bhurtel, and Aasif Sheikh have provided striking starts and given their team momentum. Sandeep Lamichhane remains a key spin option expected to trouble higher class of international batters. For Nepal, this match is more than just a group fixture, it represents the chance to announce themselves on the World Cup stage.
The big concern for Nepal going into this match is the fact that their recent wins have come against similarly smaller teams. There is a huge difference between defeating Canada or UAE and beating one of the giants of the sport like England. This will be an opportunity for Nepal to prove that they are capable of doing that, but the oddsmakers don't have a lot of faith in them.
Score Projection: England 168 – Nepal 134 ATS PRO
Win Probability: England 88%, Nepal 12% ATS PRO
England shouldn't have much trouble in the first match of their T20 World Cup campaign here. While the Nepalese side might strong together some solid overs, the overall quality of England is too much to ignore here. England will win convincingly, with the over on England's team total being a decent shout if they bat first and give themselves a chance to put up a big total for Nepal to chase.
