The college basketball world turns its attention to Bloomington on Saturday as the Nebraska Cornhuskers face the Indiana Hoosiers in a Big Ten showdown. Indiana heads into this matchup after an emphatic 84–66 win over Maryland in which Lamar Wilkerson scored 24 points. Indiana’s offense averages 85 points per game and shoots a strong percentage from the field. They will try to continue doing both of those things to hand Nebraska its first loss of the season so far.
Nebraska has been one of the biggest stories in college basketball this season as an unbeaten team, thanks to its stellar defense and consistent scoring depth. Nebraska’s 15–0 record includes victories over quality Big Ten opponents, including Ohio State on the road in their last game. The Cornhuskers’ offense is averaging just over 81 points per game. Both teams rank near the top of the conference in three-point shooting, setting up what could be a high-scoring and closely contested game.
The environment at Assembly Hall will be a true test for Nebraska’s perfect season, as Indiana is 10–0 at home this year. On top of that, this is the second straight road game for the Cornhuskers after they played in Columbus earlier in the week. That could take its toll on them despite their unbeaten start to the year.
Score Projection: Nebraska 74 – Indiana 79
Win Probability: Nebraska 41%, Indiana 59%
Eventually, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have to lose a basketball game, at least one would think. I'm expecting that loss to come here, as the Hoosiers have been dominant at home and should remain that way against a road-weary opponent. I'll lay the points with Nebraska in this contest to start the day in the Big Ten.
