The West Division race takes center stage on Saturday night as the Saskatchewan Roughriders travel to McMahon Stadium to face the Calgary Stampeders in a Week 3 showdown. Saskatchewan enters the game off a 31-27 victory over BC in its season opener, while Calgary is still looking for its first win after a competitive defeat in Week 1. With both clubs expected to contend for a playoff spot, this early-season meeting carries more weight than a typical June contest.
Saskatchewan showed impressive balance in its win over BC, generating points through the air while also making timely defensive plays. Calgary, meanwhile, demonstrated enough offensive firepower in its opener to suggest better results are ahead. Vernon Adams Jr. gives the Stampeders one of the league's most dangerous quarterbacks, and returning home could help a team that has traditionally played well at McMahon Stadium.
Saskatchewan enters with the stronger recent form after opening the season with a win over BC. The Roughriders scored 31 points in that contest and displayed the offensive efficiency that made them one of the tougher teams to defend last season. Calgary has talent on both sides of the ball, but the Stampeders are still searching for consistency after an opening-week loss.
My projection favors Saskatchewan because of its ability to generate explosive plays while limiting mistakes. Calgary should move the ball effectively behind Adams, yet Saskatchewan's defense appears slightly more reliable in high-leverage situations. Expect a competitive game throughout, but the Roughriders have a small edge entering the fourth quarter.
Parlay Odds: +230
The foundation of this parlay is Saskatchewan's overall team form. The Roughriders already have a victory on the board and showed enough offensive balance to trust against a Calgary defense that is still settling into the new season. Saskatchewan's ability to sustain drives should put pressure on the Stampeders throughout the night.
The total also offers value. Calgary has playmakers at quarterback and receiver, while Saskatchewan proved against BC that it can score quickly. Adams remains one of the CFL's most productive passers, making the over attractive in a game where Calgary may need to throw often to keep pace. If the contest develops into the expected back-and-forth affair, both legs have a realistic path to cashing.
Saskatchewan opened its season with an encouraging 31-27 victory over the BC Lions. The Roughriders demonstrated offensive efficiency and composure late in the game, traits that have become common for a veteran roster. Scoring 31 points against a talented BC squad is a strong indicator that the offense is already operating at a high level.
The Roughriders' offensive attack remains built around an experienced quarterback room, productive receivers, and a system capable of creating explosive plays. Saskatchewan consistently stretched the field against BC and converted key opportunities in scoring territory. That ability to finish drives is one reason the Roughriders are viewed as legitimate contenders in the West.
Defensively, Saskatchewan was not perfect against the Lions, allowing 27 points, but the unit made critical stops when needed. The Roughriders excelled in situational football and prevented BC from taking complete control of the game. Against Calgary, that same defensive discipline will be important because Adams can capitalize quickly on coverage breakdowns.
For Calgary, their record does not fully reflect the quality of its performance in the season opener. The Stampeders were competitive throughout and showed signs of becoming a dangerous offensive team. Adams remains the focal point of the attack thanks to his ability to extend plays and push the ball downfield. When he is operating efficiently, Calgary can score against any defense in the CFL.
The Stampeders also benefit from playing at home. McMahon Stadium has historically provided a strong advantage, particularly in divisional games. Calgary understands the importance of avoiding an 0-2 start, which should create an urgent and aggressive approach from the opening possession.
Expect Calgary to keep the game close well into the fourth quarter. In the end, Saskatchewan's balance on both sides of the ball gives it a slight edge. A late scoring drive and a defensive stop should be enough for the Roughriders to leave Calgary with another victory and improve to 2-0.
