Flavio Cobolli and Arthur Fils meet Saturday in the Cincinnati Open semifinals with a first Masters 1000 final on the line for both players. Cobolli, the No. 7 seed and world No. 10, has fought through 4 three-set matches to reach this stage, including a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback against Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals. Fils, ranked No. 21, has taken a much cleaner route. He has dropped just 1 set in Cincinnati and followed wins over Yannick Hanfmann, Jiri Lehecka and Alex de Minaur with a 6-3, 6-2 demolition of Thiago Agustin Tirante to get to the semifinals.
The betting market has Fils as a clear favorite, with prices moving around the -300 range on the moneyline. Current odds comparisons show Cobolli available around +265 and Fils around -300, while the game spread is generally 3.5 games, with Fils priced around -124 at the sharper end of the market. The total is sitting at 22.5 games.
Those prices make sense given what the 2 players have shown in Cincinnati, but the game handicap is more attractive than laying the heavy moneyline price. Fils has been the more convincing player through 4 rounds. He has won 57% of all points played in the tournament, compared with 52% for Cobolli, and he has conceded just 1 set. Cobolli has already dropped 4 sets.
Fils' quarterfinal performance against Tirante was particularly impressive. He won 59 points to Tirante's 36, hit 24 winners, and did not face a single break point. He won 83% of his first-serve points and 72% behind his second serve while converting 3 of 5 break opportunities. That combination of serving efficiency and pressure generated on return is exactly what makes the -3.5-game handicap appealing.
Cobolli deserves plenty of respect for reaching his first Masters 1000 semifinal. The Italian has gone 13-6 on hard courts in 2026 and owns a 31-17 overall record this season. Against Paul, he produced 31 winners, served 10 aces, and committed only 1 double fault. He also recovered after losing the opening set, showing that he can find another level when a match starts moving against him.
The concern for bettors backing Cobolli is the amount of work required to get here. His Cincinnati matches have all gone at least 3 sets, and he has spent substantially more time on court than Fils. His serve has also been less reliable than the numbers suggest it needs to be against an opponent of Fils' quality. Cobolli landed only 54% of first serves against Paul and won 69% of those first-serve points. He also won 64% behind his second serve.
The biggest reason to avoid simply laying Fils' moneyline is the price. At roughly -300, the market is demanding an implied win probability of about 75%. My projection is lower than that for the match itself because Cobolli has enough firepower to make this competitive, particularly if his first serve percentage rises. But I make Fils a stronger favorite to win by at least 4 games, giving the -3.5 spread a 60% estimated probability.
A 6-4, 6-3 Fils victory is the most likely type of result in my projections. Cobolli should have opportunities to hold serve and may force stretches of high-quality tennis from the Frenchman, but Fils has shown fewer weaknesses this week and enters the semifinal with considerably less physical wear. My model therefore favors Fils -3.5 games at -124 or better, with -150 representing the maximum playable price.
