BetMGM vs. DraftKings Sportsbook – Which Betting Site Is Better?

BetMGM and DraftKings Sportsbook are two of the most popular sports betting apps in the United States today. Over the years, they have each established themselves as a top-tier option in this competitive industry by offering a phenomenal overall experience to their customers.

As each of the sportsbooks continues to expand their presence and become available in more locations, bettors are often tasked with choosing between the two platforms.

It is clear that DraftKings and BetMGM are both great options, and each has many exciting features to offer its customers. However, every individual has different preferences and sports betting needs.

That's why, in this review, we will compare all of the most important aspects of each sportsbook, such as their promotional offers, market depth, availability, loyalty programs, customer service, and much more!

By the time we're finished, you'll have all the information you need to choose the option that works best for you and dive right into the thrilling world of online sports betting. Now, let's get started.

Is DraftKings Better Than BetMGM?

While both DraftKings Sportsbook and BetMGM Sportsbook offer competitive sports betting experiences, DraftKings edges slightly ahead in several key categories in my experience betting with them. With a user-friendly interface, a wide range of betting options, and innovative features, DraftKings stands out for its comprehensive sportsbook platform.

However, the choice between DraftKings and BetMGM ultimately depends on individual preferences. Some users may appreciate BetMGM's features and promotions, making it a close competition. In our evaluation, DraftKings Sportsbook holds a slight advantage overall.

For sports enthusiasts seeking the most bang for their buck, DraftKings is my recommendation. Nevertheless, both DraftKings and BetMGM are reputable options, and the final decision should align with your specific betting preferences.

Welcome Offer Comparison

It's pretty common for sportsbooks to extend special deals and promotions to encourage new customers to join their platform and experience all they have to offer. DraftKings and BetMGM Sportsbook are no different, and they each provide an exciting welcome deal to their new users.

BetMGM's New User Bonus tends to fluctuate throughout the year. At times, they'll provide a special Bet & Get promo, which allows new customers to sign up and place a small wager to instantly unlock hundreds of dollars in bonus bets regardless of the outcome.

In addition, BetMGM Sportsbook will periodically provide first-bet offers, which allow first-time users to place a bet knowing that they'll get a 100% refund in the form of bonus funds if their wager happens to lose.

Meanwhile, DraftKings typically sticks with the Bet & Get promos. These, as previously mentioned, allow new users to receive a bonus by placing a small initial wager of just $1, $5, or $10.

In addition, DraftKings has recently added to the excitement with their daily no-sweat SGP tokens, which allow bettors to build a same-game parlay every day and receive a full refund if the parlay doesn't hit.

Overall, there is no clear winner in this category. Instead, it simply depends on the type of offer a customer is looking for and which bonus they believe will get their betting experience off to the best start.

BetMGM vs DraftKings: Ongoing Sportsbook Bonuses & Promotions

Many different ongoing bonuses and promotions are offered to existing customers of BetMGM and DraftKings. For example, in addition to their incredible sign-up offer, BetMGM is currently offering users the opportunity to unlock special odds boosts and bonus bets.

Meanwhile, DraftKings Sportsbook is providing its customers with no-sweat single-game parlays, odds surges, and free-to-play contests. Although it is a close race, DraftKings has the upper hand when it comes to the exciting promotional deals they offer to their current customers.

Location & Availability: Where Are They Legal?

BetMGM and DraftKings are both rapidly expanding their presence throughout the United States. The chart below includes a list of U.S. states where the two sportsbooks are available.

*Note: In accordance with state law, BetMGM and DraftKings Sportsbook are only available to residents of Mississippi and Washington who are physically present at participating retail locations. In addition, Oregon residents must be physically located at BetMGM's partner casino in order to sign up and place wagers.

There is a significant overlap when it comes to the availability of BetMGM and DraftKings in North America. Each of the sportsbooks is available in Ontario, Canada and the following 22 U.S. states: AZ, CO, CT, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MS, NJ, NY, OH, PA, TN, VA, WA, WV, and WY.

However, there are a few differences worth highlighting. First, DraftKings Sportsbook is the only one of the two platforms currently live in Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Vermont. However, unlike BetMGM, DraftKings is not available in Nevada at present.

Furthermore, Oregon bettors can only register and place wagers with BetMGM at Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde, while they can use DraftKings Sportsbook's website or mobile app from anywhere in the state.

Nevertheless, the availability of BetMGM and DraftKings is overall quite similar, and it is expected that both sportsbooks will continue to spread throughout the U.S. as more states begin to legalize sports betting.

BetMGM vs. DraftKings: Market Depth & Variety

In terms of the market depth and variety offered by sportsbooks in the United States, BetMGM and DraftKings are at the top of the industry. The different sports currently being covered on each of the platforms are listed below.

*Note: The sports being offered may fluctuate throughout the year.

It is more than likely that bettors will always have their sporting events of interest available on both sportsbooks at all times. However, it does appear that BetMGM offers a slightly wider selection of sports than DraftKings, as they include a few more niche options on the market (e.g., curling and water polo).

In addition, BetMGM Sportsbook seems to cover a greater amount of international leagues in basketball, soccer, and several other sports. For example, customers can currently place wagers with BetMGM on soccer matches in well over 50 different countries across the globe. As a result, BetMGM Sportsbook has a distinct advantage in this category.

Is DraftKings or BetMGM Sportsbook Better for NFL Betting?

DraftKings and BetMGM are both popular choices for sports betting, but when it comes to NFL betting, BetMGM takes the lead. BetMGM Sportsbook stands out by offering users in many states the opportunity to choose their favorite team and unlock special odds boosts and promotions for all of their games throughout the season.

Plus, compared to DraftKings, BetMGM tends to have a wider selection of betting markets for various NFL events. This extensive range includes traditional options like point spreads, moneylines, and totals, as well as a variety of player and team prop bets. BetMGM's user-friendly interface also makes it easy for bettors to navigate through these markets and find the NFL bets that suit their preferences.

Types of Wagers & Live Betting

Both BetMGM and DraftKings offer a variety of betting options to their users. These include point spreads, over/under totals, moneylines, parlays, same-game parlays (SGPs), futures, game props, player props, round robins, alternative lines, and much more.

However, when comparing the online sportsbooks, it is readily apparent that DraftKings offers a slightly wider range of bet types to their users, especially when it comes to the No Sweat SGP bets as well as alternative lines and totals.

Live betting is also a popular option for customers of BetMGM and DraftKings. Although both platforms provide a great real-time betting experience, BetMGM Sportsbook seems to have a distinct advantage in terms of the different in-game betting opportunities they offer, as BetMGM covers many more sports and leagues around the world.

BetMGM vs DraftKings: Odds Comparison

Among all U.S. sportsbooks, BetMGM and DraftKings offer some of the most competitive odds on the market. Finding the best odds provided by a sportsbook can be very important when it comes to the number of wagers you need to win to be net positive in sports betting.

For example, the industry standard of -110 odds requires you to win 52.4% of your bets to be profitable. Meanwhile, if you are placing bets on average at odds of -115, you will need to win a total of 53.5% of your bets to make money as a sports bettor. Even though this may seem to be an insignificant amount, it can very well be the difference between making money and losing it.

BetMGM and DraftKings provide very similar odds to their customers for just about any sport or league offered on the platform. As a result, the best option for new bettors may actually be to sign up for both sportsbooks and shop around for the best odds as they become available.

Loyalty Programs & Customer Rewards

Two of the best loyalty programs in the sports betting industry belong to BetMGM and DraftKings Sportsbook. The BetMGM Rewards Program allows users to accumulate reward points that can be redeemed for a variety of rewards such as bonus credits for sports wagering or online casino games.

In addition, customers can choose to convert their BetMGM Rewards Points into MGM Rewards Points that can be used for complimentary food and beverage, hotel stays, entertainment, and much more at any of the 20+ MGM Resorts located in Las Vegas and across the country.

The Dynasty Rewards Program offered by DraftKings is quite similar. Customers earn reward points called Crowns when they place bets on sporting events, enter daily fantasy sports contests, or play online casino games with DraftKings. Just like BetMGM Rewards Points, Crowns can be redeemed on the platform for special prizes, including DraftKings merchandise and bonus play opportunities.

The loyalty programs offered by DraftKings and BetMGM also each include a tier system that allows players to rise up the ranks and earn a wide range of bonuses and rewards.

For example, when a DraftKings customer reaches the Gold Tier, they will receive Weekly Prize Chests, priority customer support, and a 20% Crown accrual boost. On BetMGM, users in the Gold Tier receive a $25 bonus bet on their birthday, access to premium customer support, and a 20% BetMGM Rewards Point bonus.

Although the rewards programs offered by DraftKings and BetMGM share a lot of the same features, the BetMGM Rewards Program has a slight edge over the Dynasty Rewards Program because it offers a wider range of prizes and better rewards to its most loyal customers.

BetMGM vs DraftKings: Deposits & Withdrawals

A wide range of safe, reliable options for making deposits and withdrawals are offered by both DraftKings and BetMGM. Shown below are some of the most popular options and their availability on each platform.

Deposit Options

*Note: Deposit methods will vary across jurisdictions.

As you can see, both sportsbooks offer many popular payment options for their customers to use. However, it does appear that BetMGM currently covers a wider range of options, providing their users with a greater degree of flexibility when it comes to funding their accounts.

On the other hand, it is worth noting that the minimum deposit amount for BetMGM is $10, while the minimum deposit for DraftKings is just $5.

Withdrawal Options

Note: All withdrawals made through BetMGM Sportsbook will have an internal review of up to 5 days (in most cases).

As shown in the chart above, both DraftKings and BetMGM allow their customers to withdraw funds from their accounts in a variety of different ways. Unfortunately for users of BetMGM Sportsbook, their withdrawal is subject to an internal review that can take up to five days.

As a result, DraftKings Sportsbook has a definitive edge when it comes to offering conveniently fast payouts to their customers.

Customer Service & Support

There are many similarities between the customer service offered by BetMGM and DraftKings Sportsbook.

For instance, they each have many different articles available that cover frequently asked questions (FAQ) by customers about signing up, making deposits and withdrawals, claiming promotional offers, and many other important topics. In addition, the customer support team of each sportsbook can be reached by users over email and via Twitter.

However, there is a major difference that sets one sportsbook apart from the other in this category. Unlike DraftKings, BetMGM Sportsbook offers a 24/7 Live Chat option that allows their users to get their questions answered and concerns addressed almost immediately by a member of their staff. Therefore, BetMGM undoubtedly has an advantage in terms of the customer service they provide.

BetMGM vs DraftKings: Mobile App Experience

BetMGM and DraftKings each give customers the option to access their sportsbook through a mobile app that is available for download in the App Store and Google Play Store.

The BetMGM Sportsbook app has an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars on the App Store but just 4.2 out of 5 stars on the Google Play Store. In comparison, the DraftKings Sportsbook & Casino app has an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars on the App Store and 4.6 stars on the Google Play Store.

Both mobile apps are well-designed and relatively easy to use, as they allow users to seamlessly navigate between the many different betting options and exciting promotional deals that are currently available.

Although both sportsbooks offer an excellent mobile experience, the BetMGM Sportsbook app tends to buffer more frequently and load a bit slower than the DraftKings Sportsbook & Casino app. As a result, DraftKings edges out BetMGM in this particular category.

Final Verdict: BetMGM or DraftKings?

DraftKings and BetMGM Sportsbook are two of the best options available to sports bettors in the United States. Choosing one over the other will depend on your individual needs and personal preferences.

BetMGM provides an unmatched loyalty program, excellent customer service, a wide variety of sports betting options in different leagues/sports, and a generous welcome offer for new users. Meanwhile, DraftKings offers a great selection of bet types, wide availability across the United States, speedy payouts to all users, and an opportunity to Bet $5 and win $200 in bonus bets as one of its most regularly offered bonuses.

Since both sportsbooks have many amazing qualities, the best option may actually be to sign up for both, claim their welcome offers, and try them out for yourself. Then, you can decide which one works best for you once you've had some time to get familiar with each option.
