Inter began their Serie A title defense by overwhelming newly promoted Monza 4-1 at San Siro. Hakan Calhanoglu opened the scoring before Piotr Zielinski, Pio Esposito and Yann Bisseck found the net during a commanding second-half performance.
That display showed the range of attacking options available to Cristian Chivu. Inter can create through their established forward partnership, midfield runners and defenders arriving at set pieces. New arrivals John Stones and Curtis Jones also give the manager additional flexibility, although Chivu may see little reason to make extensive changes following such a convincing opening result.
With a meeting against Napoli awaiting on Matchday 3, Inter will be determined to avoid dropping points in Sardinia. Establishing control through possession and creating overloads in wide areas should be central to their approach.
