Manchester City will travel to Selhurst Park on Friday, August 28, to face Crystal Palace in the second matchweek of the 2026-27 Premier League season. The fixture pits Enzo Maresca's new-look City side against a Palace team beginning a new era under Pierre Sage. City opened the campaign with a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Bournemouth, while Palace fell 2-0 at Everton in their league opener. Here, we look at the market pricing for this Premier League match and break down the keys to this match as well.
Manchester City enters the matchup as the clear favorite in the prediction market. Polymarket currently prices City at 61% to win, with the draw at 23% and Crystal Palace at 18%. Those prices indicate that traders see a significant gap between the teams despite City's uneven performance in its opener. The market also reflects the uncertainty surrounding a City squad undergoing a major midfield rebuild and playing its first Premier League away game under Maresca.
The Polymarket pricing can move throughout the week as new information emerges, including lineup announcements, injuries and transfer activity. City will have an opportunity to build on its opening-week victory and demonstrate that the late comeback against Bournemouth was more than a one-off escape. Enzo Maresca could hardly have asked for a more dramatic Premier League debut, but the performance itself left plenty to improve. City trailed Bournemouth for more than 80 minutes before goals from Marc Guéhi and Josko Gvardiol turned the match around. Maresca subsequently described his team as a work in progress, acknowledging that the squad still needs time to develop cohesion and regain full fitness after the summer's World Cup.
The midfield remains one of the biggest questions. Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Tijjani Reijnders and Nico González have all departed during the summer, leaving City with a significantly different structure in the center of the pitch. The arrival of Elliot Anderson and the signing of Ayyoub Bouaddi are intended to address that problem, although Maresca still has to determine his best combination.
A trip to Palace should provide a better indication of whether City can control matches more consistently. The quality remains obvious, particularly in attack, but the visitors will need more than late-game resilience if they are to challenge for the title.
Crystal Palace will be looking for a response after a disappointing opening weekend at Everton. Sage's first Premier League match in charge ended in a 2-0 defeat, making Friday's home opener an important opportunity to put points on the board.
Palace can also take encouragement from recent meetings between the clubs. City won the most recent encounter 3-0 in May, but Palace have previously shown they can make this matchup uncomfortable, including a 3-1 league victory over City in the 2025-26 campaign.
Selhurst Park should provide a considerably different environment from Everton away, and Palace will need to make the most of that home advantage. Keeping City from establishing control in midfield will likely be central to their chances of producing an upset.
One of the biggest questions surrounding City is whether newly signed Ayyoub Bouaddi will make his debut. City confirmed the arrival of the 18-year-old midfielder from Lille on Wednesday, with reports putting the transfer fee at around £86 million. Bouaddi signed a five-year contract after becoming one of Europe's most highly regarded young defensive midfielders.
His arrival comes at a particularly important moment for City. Maresca needs a long-term solution in the position previously occupied by Rodri, and Bouaddi's potential makes him an intriguing candidate. However, throwing an 18-year-old into a Premier League away game immediately after his transfer would represent a significant challenge.
If Bouaddi is involved at Selhurst Park, even a substitute appearance would give supporters their first glimpse of City's latest major investment. More importantly, his involvement could offer an early indication of how quickly Maresca intends to integrate him into the new-look midfield.
