The Philadelphia Flyers and Florida Panthers will face off on Thursday night. The Panthers come into this game with home-ice advantage and momentum after a 3–2 win over Chicago in their season opener. The Flyers will be seeking a strong start to their season on the road. Here, I take a closer look at this Eastern Conference matchup in the NHL and bring you my Flyers vs Panthers prediction.
Line | Philadelphia Flyers | Florida Panthers |
|---|---|---|
Moneyline | +165 | −195 |
Puckline | +1.5 (-155) | −1.5 (+130) |
Total | Over 5.5 | Under 5.5 |
Florida enters this game with a win already under its belt. In their season opener, the Panthers defeated Chicago 3–2 in a game that was closer than many expected. The Flyers are just now entering the season and will look to improve after a 2024-25 campaign where Philly finished tied for the fewest points in the Eastern Conference.
The Panthers are expected to rely on Sergei Bobrovsky, who made 17 saves in Florida's opener and preserved the win. He enters with a documented history of success in close games. The Flyers' starter is set to be Samuel Ersson this season. He went 22-17-5 last season and will try to beat that mark starting with this game.
Florida is without franchise cornerstone Aleksander Barkov, who underwent knee surgery and is expected to miss most of the regular season. That’s a significant absence. They also will be missing Matthew Tkachuk (groin) and Tomas Nosek (knee). Florida’s supporting cast must step up to fill those voids.
The Flyers enter the season with injury issues on defense. Rasmus Ristolainen, Cam York, Ethan Samson, and Oliver Bonk are listed as out with various injuries. Their forwards will have to carry the offense and provide transitional defense if the defensive lines are worn out.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Carter Verhaeghe (FLA) | Over 1.5 Shots on Goal |
Sam Reinhart (FLA) | Over 0.5 Goals |
Score Projection: Flyers 2 – Panthers 4
Win Probability: Florida 69%, Philadelphia 31%
Florida enters as a clear favorite and for good reason. They are on home ice, have an established goaltender, and have superior roster depth to make up for injuries to key stars. The Flyers will be undermanned on defense and that is likely to be a problem against the defending Stanley Cup champions. I recommend laying the puckline with the Panthers here, as they should improve to 2-0-0 on the season and get the win in more convincing fashion than their win over Chicago.
