The New York Islanders head into Denver riding a four-game winning streak going into their game against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday night. Colorado is one of the few teams in the NHL playing better hockey than the Islanders right now, having won five games in a row. Before these teams put their winning streaks on the line against each other, you can find my Islanders vs Avalanche prediction below.
The Islanders have strung together four straight victories, including three consecutive overtime wins. Their ability to stay composed late in games has stood out. Jonathan Drouin enters with a three-game point streak and the team continues to get timely scoring from multiple lines.
Colorado brings a nine-game point streak into this contest, winning seven of those games. They have earned points in every game at Ball Arena with a 6–0–2 record on home ice and they have won five games in a row overall. Few teams have been able to match their pace and sustained pressure.
Ilya Sorokin is expected back in goal for the Islanders tonight. He is 6-4-2 on the season and has a 2.90 GAA. He has helped the Isles hold their nerve in some tight games recently. Colorado is expected to roll with Scott Wedgewood, who leads the league in victories and recently earned a one-year extension. He has a 2.26 GAA and will try to continue his hot streak tonight.
All eyes will be on Brock Nelson, who plays his first game against New York after spending more than 900 games with the Islanders. He has seven points so far for Colorado and continues to fit seamlessly into their lineup. Drouin gets his first meeting with his former Avalanche teammates, adding more intrigue to this game.
Nathan MacKinnon remains the centerpiece for Colorado. He is already at 33 points with outstanding production at even strength and on the power play. Bo Horvat leads the Islanders with 23 points and has been their most consistent forward through the early weeks of the season.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Nathan MacKinnon | Over 1.5 Points |
Cale Makar | Over 0.5 Goals |
Bo Horvat | Over 0.5 Points |
Jonathan Drouin | Over 0.5 Points |
Score Projection: Islanders 2 – Avalanche 5
Win Probability: Islanders 33% — Avalanche 67%
Colorado should be able to win and cover the puckline at home against the Islanders in this game. The Islanders have won four games in a row, but they have scraped by in most of those games in overtime. Against the team with the best record in the league, we should see the Isles struggle and the Avs cover the puckline on home ice.
