The Florida Panthers and Detroit Red Wings will meet in an Atlantic Division matchup in the NHL on Wednesday night. The defending Stanley Cup champions are coming off their first loss of the 2025-26 campaign. They will try to right the ship against a Red Wings team that has won two games in a row entering tonight. Continue reading to find my Panthers vs Red Wings prediction before this game begins in Detroit.
The Panthers began their season strongly and have looked sharp offensively and defensively. They are 3-1-0 on the year, averaging 3.25 goals per game, while they concede 2.50 goals per game. Detroit comes in at 2–1 and fresh off back-to-back wins over Toronto. The Red Wings are scoring 3.33 goals per game but have also allowed 3.33 goals per game. They will try to hand the Panthers their second straight road loss to start the year.
Florida’s netminder, Sergei Bobrovsky, has looked reliable to begin the season. He has a .925 save percentage and a 1.67 GAA coming into this contest. Detroit starter Cam Talbot has been consistent with a respectable 2.11 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage. The matchup may come down to which goaltender can avoid mistakes down the stretch.
Florida is missing Aleksander Barkov due to injury, which is a major void up the middle for them to fill. Still, their offense has offset that via contributions from Brad Marchand, Anton Lundell, and Evan Rodrigues.
Detroit leans heavily on forwards like Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, and Alex DeBrincat. Patrick Kane leads the team with four points heading into tonight's game. Their power play was among the NHL’s best last season, and they’ll aim to exploit Florida on the man advantage if given the chance.
Player | Stat Type | Pick |
|---|---|---|
Anton Lundell (FLA) | Points | Over 0.5 |
Brad Marchand (FLA) | Goals | Over 0.5 |
Alex DeBrincat (DET) | Assists | Over 0.5 |
Dylan Larkin (DET) | Points | Over 0.5 |
Score Projection: Detroit 4 – Florida 3
Win Probability: Detroit 57%, Florida 43%
This is shaping up to be a competitive and entertaining game. Both teams are playing well early in the season and the winner will give themselves a nice boost early in the Atlantic Division race. I think that team will be the Detroit Red Wings. Florida has not looked like a championship-caliber team in the early going and they are 0-1 on the road. I expect Detroit to drop the Panthers to 0-2 away from Florida after this contest is complete.
