NFL Week 3 Survivor Pool Picks: Who to Use In Survivor This Week

Survivor pools can get uncomfortable quickly. The obvious strategy is to take the biggest favorite on the board each week, but burning through Kansas City, Buffalo, Philadelphia, and other top teams too early can leave a difficult path later in the season. Week 3 offers a few different approaches, including a clear top choice and some alternatives for players willing to accept additional risk in exchange for preserving premium teams.
Kansas City is the straightforward selection for anyone whose first priority is simply reaching Week 4. Polymarket prices the Chiefs at 86¢ to defeat Miami, corresponding to an 86% implied win probability. The Dolphins sit at just 14¢. That is one of the largest gaps on the Week 3 board.
There are good reasons for that pricing. Kansas City enters at 2-0, while Miami is 0-2. The Chiefs survived Indianapolis in overtime last week, while the Dolphins lost 35-13 in San Francisco. Miami also enters the weekend with running back Jaylen Wright listed as doubtful, adding another concern for an offense that has already struggled through the opening 2 games.
The argument against Kansas City has little to do with this matchup. It is about future value. The Chiefs should appear in this conversation repeatedly during the season, including games in which they could be even more attractive. Using them in Week 3 means giving up that option.
Still, survivor pools punish getting too clever. Anyone who has Kansas City available and simply wants the strongest combination of matchup and market confidence should have the Chiefs near the top of the list.
Buffalo offers another high-confidence option without quite reaching Kansas City’s price. Polymarket has the Bills at 76¢ against the Chargers, giving Buffalo a 76% implied probability of winning. Los Angeles is priced at 25¢.
The early-season results strengthen Buffalo’s case. The Bills are 2-0 and return home after scoring 41 points against Detroit in Week 2. Los Angeles is 0-2 after opening its season with consecutive double-digit defeats. The Chargers also ruled out 6 players for Sunday, including Elijah Molden, Dalvin Tomlinson, Trey Pipkins III, Kayode Awosika, Brenen Thompson, and Charlie Kolar.
Buffalo still carries considerable future value, so this is another selection that comes with an opportunity cost. However, players who used Kansas City in an earlier week or simply prefer Buffalo’s home-field situation have an appealing alternative.
The Chargers are talented enough that this should not be treated like an automatic victory. A 76% market price still implies a meaningful upset possibility. Even so, Buffalo belongs firmly in the safer group of Week 3 survivor choices.
Detroit is where the strategy becomes more interesting. The Lions are 1-1 after losing 41-31 at Buffalo, but they return to Ford Field to face a 1-1 Jets team. Polymarket currently prices Detroit at 73¢ and New York at 28¢, making the Lions a clear favorite without putting them in Kansas City’s price range.
This selection makes sense for players who want to hold Kansas City and Buffalo for later. Detroit is still a valuable survivor team, but there should be fewer weeks in which the Lions are the obvious top option compared with Kansas City. Using Detroit now can therefore make sense from a season-long planning standpoint.
There is more risk here. New York has played solid defense through 2 games, and Detroit has defensive questions of its own. This is not the matchup for someone who simply wants the highest available win probability. It is more attractive for players thinking several weeks ahead.
For pools where a large portion of the field is expected to land on Kansas City or Buffalo, Detroit also creates some separation without dropping into true coin-flip territory.
Cincinnati is the aggressive choice of this group. Polymarket prices the Bengals at 64¢ to beat Pittsburgh, compared with 37¢ for the Steelers. That 64% implied win probability is considerably lower than Kansas City, Buffalo, or Detroit, so this selection comes with noticeably more elimination risk.
There is still a case for it. Cincinnati enters Week 3 at 2-0 after victories over Tampa Bay and Houston. Pittsburgh is 1-1 and managed only 3 points in its Week 2 loss to New England. The Bengals are also favored despite playing this game on the road.
The concern is obvious: AFC North games have a habit of being competitive, and choosing a road favorite at a 64% market price introduces much more danger than simply selecting Kansas City.
That makes Cincinnati better suited to players with multiple survivor entries, those who have already used some of the strongest Week 3 choices, or anyone specifically trying to preserve Kansas City and Buffalo. It would be hard to justify the Bengals as the safest selection on the board, but that is not the purpose of the pick. Cincinnati provides a viable route through Week 3 while leaving several of the NFL’s most valuable survivor teams available for later.
