Lions vs Cardinals Prediction & Preview: Can Lions Get First Road Win?

Updated October 10, 2026

Updated October 10, 2026

The Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals will meet at State Farm Stadium on Sunday, October 11, with both teams looking to recover from disappointing Week 4 defeats. Detroit enters at 2-2 after losing 32-26 to Carolina, while Arizona sits at 1-3 following a 36-24 defeat against the New York Giants. Both offenses have enough talent to produce a high-scoring contest, but injuries, inconsistent execution, and Arizona's struggles sustaining drives make this game a question of who can actually turn that talent into consistent execution.
Targeting the Total
Polymarket currently prices Under 54.5 at 52¢, representing a 52% implied probability, while Over 54.5 is available at 49¢. Detroit is also favored in the winner market at approximately 70¢, compared with 31¢ for Arizona. The pricing reflects Detroit's superior offensive production and the defensive struggles both teams have experienced. However, the projected scoring environment may be slightly less favorable than those recent results suggest.
Price vs. Projection
My estimated total is approximately 52 points, with Detroit projected to win 28-24. Using that projection and allowing for normal NFL scoring variation produces an estimated 56% probability of finishing Under 54.5, creating a 4% edge against the current Polymarket price. Arizona's damaged offensive line and difficulties converting opportunities into touchdowns provide the main reasons to favor the Under rather than expect another offensive showcase.

Why Our Model Sees Value:

“Recent high-scoring results may be inflating expectations for both offenses. Arizona's offensive-line injuries, limited explosive passing production, and inconsistent finishing ability suggest fewer points than recent final scores indicate.”
Detroit has produced 119 points across its first four games, averaging 29.8 points per contest. However, the Lions have also surrendered 127 points, an alarming 31.8 per game.
Their latest defeat against Carolina highlighted both sides of the problem. Jared Goff threw for 412 yards, yet Detroit managed just 26 points as stalled drives and penalties prevented the offense from capitalizing on its yardage.
With Green Bay awaiting after the Week 6 bye, the Lions need a more controlled performance. Establishing the running game and improving red-zone efficiency would help keep their struggling defense off the field.
Goff has enjoyed an impressive statistical start, recording 1,214 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and zero interceptions through four games. Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Sam LaPorta give Detroit several dangerous receiving options, while Jahmyr Gibbs adds another dimension as both a runner and receiver.
Arizona has conceded 117 points through four games, although that figure includes a defensive touchdown scored by the Giants last weekend. Still, many NFL predictions are on the over in this contest thanks to the defensive struggles on both sides.
The Cardinals will also be without safety Andrew Wingard, creating another concern against Detroit's passing attack. Nevertheless, Goff's ability to sustain long drives could generate scoring opportunities without necessarily creating an exceptionally fast game.
Arizona quarterback Jacoby Brissett has accumulated 818 passing yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions this season. His average of just 5.4 yards per attempt illustrates the Cardinals' reliance on shorter throws. That approach could become even more important against Detroit's defensive front.
Aidan Hutchinson has recorded 3.5 sacks through four games, and Arizona enters Sunday without starting left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. and right guard Isaiah Adams.
Trey McBride remains Brissett's most dependable receiving target, while Michael Wilson provides another option. However, the Cardinals may struggle to create enough explosive plays to consistently finish drives with touchdowns.
Arizona rookie Jeremiyah Love has rushed for 223 yards on 55 carries, averaging 4.1 yards per attempt. He practiced fully on Friday after managing an ankle issue earlier in the week.
Detroit also has personnel concerns. Brian Branch, Cade Mays, Ben Bartch, and Rock Ya-Sin have been ruled out, while defensive tackle Tyleik Williams is questionable.
The matchup between Gibbs and Arizona's defensive front could determine possession time. If Detroit establishes its running game early, the Lions can reduce pressure on Goff while limiting Arizona's offensive opportunities.
Both defenses have struggled enough to make a high-scoring outcome a genuine concern. Detroit's offensive firepower is particularly dangerous against Arizona's injured defensive backfield. Still, Arizona's offensive limitations and Detroit's potential emphasis on controlling possession support a slightly lower projected total.
Under 54.5 at 52¢ offers a 4% estimated edge, making it my preferred prediction for Sunday's matchup.
