Broncos vs Chargers Prediction & Preview: LA Looks For First Win This Season

The Denver Broncos travel to SoFi Stadium on Sunday, October 11, for a meeting with the Los Angeles Chargers that already carries serious AFC West consequences. Denver is 2-2 after a 24-14 defeat to San Francisco, while Los Angeles is 0-4 despite showing more fight in last weekend’s 30-23 loss at Seattle. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. Eastern. Neither offense has found a reliable rhythm, but injuries across both defenses and a major coaching change in Denver make this game interesting nonetheless.
Total Analysis
The latest Polymarket listing shows Over 42.5 at 48¢, implying a 48% chance of at least 43 combined points. Under 42.5 is quoted at 53¢. Those prices reveal skepticism about both quarterbacks, and there are reasons for it. Denver averages 18.5 points per game, while Los Angeles has managed just 16.8. Both teams have reached 23 points only once this season, and the Chargers have yet to win.
Defensive Concerns
Still, the opposing defenses have allowed 23.5 and 26.5 points per game, respectively. My projection sits just above that 43.5-point line, with a projected 24-20 Denver victory. The over is therefore a decent pricing opportunity, not a forecast of an offensive explosion. Above 51¢, the advantage becomes too small to justify the position.

Why Our Model Sees Value:

“The price may put too much weight on four weeks of inefficient offense and too little on Denver's change of play-caller, missing defensive starters, and the possibility of short fields created by Chargers turnovers.”
Denver can move above .500 and keep pressure on undefeated Kansas City, while Los Angeles needs a win to avoid a fifth straight defeat. Divisional games rarely need extra incentive, but the stakes are especially high for Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh. Another loss would leave his team buried before the schedule reaches its midpoint. Denver also faces a quick turnaround, with Seattle visiting on Thursday, making efficient preparation and a clean performance essential.
Denver's biggest tactical shift comes on the sideline. Sean Payton has reclaimed offensive play-calling duties from Davis Webb after the Broncos ranked 27th in scoring and 28th in total offense through four games. Bo Nix has 819 passing yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions, completing 60% of his attempts. Those figures have not translated into a reliable downfield attack.
Payton should look for earlier throws to Jaylen Waddle and more opportunities for J.K. Dobbins to keep the Chargers from sitting on short routes. Los Angeles will be without safety Derwin James Jr. and cornerback Donte Jackson, giving Denver a chance to attack an unsettled defensive backfield. Nix must still deliver, as a coaching change alone will not fix missed throws or stalled drives. NFL predictions on this matchup shouldn't overvalue the change, while attempting to understand its importance.
Herbert has thrown for 816 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions, and has been sacked 12 times. That turnover rate helps explain Los Angeles' slow start. His protection may be even more vulnerable Sunday, with Joe Alt, Kayode Awosika, and Trevor Penning ruled out and Rashawn Slater on injured reserve. Quentin Johnston is also out, while Ladd McConkey is questionable with a foot injury.
There is an opening, though. Denver will be missing starting cornerbacks Pat Surtain II and Riley Moss. Herbert can test their replacements with Tre' Harris and tight end Oronde Gadsden, especially if Los Angeles gives him quick reads. Running back Omarion Hampton, with 238 yards and three rushing touchdowns, could also prevent Denver from devoting every defender to the passing game.
Herbert's interceptions and Denver's weakened coverage create possibilities for sudden scoring swings. Los Angeles' 53-point game at Seattle and Denver's 56-point meeting with the Rams show that both teams have already played in higher-scoring contests.
The risk is equally clear: if the Chargers cannot protect Herbert or Payton's offense starts slowly again, possessions could disappear without points. A 24-20 finish is my projection, leaving Over 42.5 as a modest value prediction at the available 48¢ price.
