The Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets will meet on Friday night in Game 3 of their Western Conference first-round playoff series. The Lakers carry a 2-0 lead into Houston after wins of 107-98 and 101-94, despite missing key contributors. Now the Houston Rockets return home, where they have been far more comfortable all season, and Houston is favored in what is a must-win game for them. With Kevin Durant’s health in question and the Lakers still without multiple scorers, Lakers vs Rockets Game 3 will be a test of the depth of both of these teams.
Houston enters Game 3 down 0-2, a spot that often brings peak urgency, especially with the series heading home. The Rockets have struggled offensively throughout the first two games of this series, but they are still the favorites here. That reflects both their strong home record and the expectation of improved shooting after a rough start in Los Angeles.
The Lakers have had the upper hand in this series through their defense and half-court execution. Even without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, LeBron James continues to orchestrate the offense, and role players have stepped up with timely scoring bursts.
Injuries remain central to this matchup. Houston is monitoring Kevin Durant, who returned in Game 2 and scored 23 points but is dealing with an ankle issue. The Lakers remain without Doncic and Reaves, leaving their margin for error thinner despite the 2-0 cushion.

Los Angeles Lakers
The Rockets should get their first win of this series on Friday night, though that could change if Durant is ruled out due to injury again. Whether KD plays or not, though, I'm going to take the points with the Lakers. My projections make this a two-possession game at most. And with the Rockets lacking any sort of playoff experience or reliability behind Durant, I'm expecting a closer game even if the Rockets do manage to get into the win column for the first time in the series.
