Shanelle Dyer enters Saturday's UFC Sacramento matchup with Elise Reed as one of the biggest favorites on the card, and the market has continued to push her price upward. Current odds have Dyer around -850 at DraftKings, with Reed at +575. That price reflects the gap in finishing ability, youth, and physical advantages, but there is still a question of whether Dyer offers enough value at such a short number.
Shanelle Dyer | Elise Reed | |
|---|---|---|
Age | 25 | 33 |
Height | 5'6" | 5'3" |
Reach | 65" | 63" |
Stance | Orthodox | Orthodox |
Record | 7-1-0 | 8-5-0 |
Dyer's biggest advantage is that she brings a much higher finishing threat into a matchup where Reed has historically been easier to hit than her 8-5 record might suggest. Dyer is 7-1 as a professional, with 5 victories by KO/TKO, including a second-round stoppage of Ravena Oliveira in her UFC debut on March 21.
Her output comes with a trade-off, as she has absorbed strikes at a high rate early in her UFC career. She has 6.72 significant strikes absorbed per minute and a 51% significant-strike defense. Those defensive numbers are the main reason I would avoid treating Dyer as an automatic bet at any price. Her aggressive approach can create openings, and Reed is experienced enough to capitalize if Dyer gives her extended opportunities in the pocket.
Reed comes into this fight with far more UFC experience, but her recent activity is a concern. Her most recent appearance was May 17, 2025, when Denise Gomes stopped her with strikes 30 seconds into Round 2. Before that loss, Reed earned a unanimous decision over Jessica Penne in October 2024. Reed is 8-5 overall, with 2 KO/TKO victories and 6 wins by decision.
The statistics show why Reed has been a useful decision fighter during her UFC run. Her win over Jessica Penne was a good example of her approach, where she lacked fight-ending power but piled up enough volume to win. Reed landed 117 significant strikes from 188 attempts in a clear decision victory.
The problem is that Dyer presents a very different threat from Penne. Reed's best route is to keep the fight at a measured pace, use her experience to make Dyer miss, and force the younger fighter into a longer striking contest. If Reed can stay upright through the first 10 minutes, the experience gap becomes much more meaningful.
The most likely fight script is Dyer controlling the range early, forcing Reed to defend against longer combinations and gradually increasing the pressure. Reed's accuracy makes her dangerous if Dyer gets careless, but Dyer's size, age, and finishing record give her the stronger overall chance in thtis fight. Reed has never won by submission and has 3 professional losses by KO/TKO, while Dyer has never been stopped.
I expect Reed to have her best stretches when she can keep Dyer at the end of her punches and avoid extended exchanges. But over 15 minutes, Dyer's physical advantages and higher finishing ceiling should eventually show. A stoppage win is a reasonable wager at plus money.
Prediction: Shanelle Dyer wins by KO/TKO.
