Farès Ziam and Axel Sola meet in an all-French lightweight co-main event at UFC Paris on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Accor Arena. It is a particularly interesting matchup because the fighters arrive after opposite results in their last fights. Ziam is trying to respond after Tom Nolan ended his 6-fight winning streak in June. Sola is coming back just 42 days after producing his biggest UFC result, a first-round submission of Ismael Bonfim.
Polymarket currently gives Ziam the advantage, pricing him at 57¢ for a 57% implied probability. Sola sits at 43¢, giving the market a relatively narrow gap between the two French lightweights.
My projection makes Ziam a 61% favorite. That creates a 4% edge at the current 57¢ price. The case for Ziam starts with his defensive efficiency and UFC experience. He absorbs just 1.58 significant strikes per minute while defending 64% of significant strikes and 71% of opponent takedown attempts. Sola lands at a much faster 4.50 significant strikes per minute, but he is also absorbing 4.53. That difference matters against an opponent who has repeatedly shown he can win more tactical rounds.
Sola's latest performance deserves respect. He landed 33 of 44 significant strikes against Bonfim, scored a knockdown, and finished the fight with a D'Arce choke at 4:44 of the opening round. Still, that result may be influencing the current perception of him more than his previous loss to Mason Jones, where Jones outlanded him 110-65 in significant strikes over 3 rounds. Ziam does not need to match Sola's pace if he can control where the exchanges happen and make Sola miss often enough.
Fighter | Age | Height | Reach | Stance | Record |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Farès Ziam | 29 | 6'1" | 75" | Orthodox | 18-5 |
Axel Sola | 28 | 6'0" | 74" | Southpaw | 12-1-1 |
Ziam enters UFC Paris looking to reset after his unanimous-decision defeat against Tom Nolan on June 6. All 3 judges scored that fight 29-28 for Nolan. Ziam was outlanded 31-16 in significant strikes, although he remained competitive through his grappling, landing 3 of 5 takedowns and accumulating 5:07 of control time.
That defeat ended the best run of Ziam's UFC career. He stopped Nazim Sadykhov late in the second round in December 2025, beat Mike Davis by unanimous decision in February 2025, and knocked out Matt Frevola in the third round in September 2024. Prior to facing Nolan, Ziam had won 6 consecutive UFC fights.
Ziam lands 2.68 significant strikes per minute but absorbs only 1.58. He has a 52% significant-strike accuracy rate, 64% significant-strike defense, and averages 1.86 takedowns per 15 minutes. His 71% takedown defense also gives him some protection if Sola elects to turn the matchup into a wrestling contest.
Sola brings a very different statistical background. The 28-year-old southpaw averages 4.50 significant strikes landed and 4.53 absorbed per minute. He also averages 1.89 takedowns per 15 minutes and has recorded 6 knockout wins and 2 submissions across his 12 professional victories.
His July win over Bonfim showed how dangerous he can be once a fight becomes chaotic. Bonfim managed only 1 significant strike while Sola landed 33, and Sola eventually converted his offensive success into a first-round D'Arce choke. It was an excellent response to his March loss against Mason Jones.
Ziam is unlikely to duplicate Jones' volume. But he can use his 1-inch advantages in both height and reach, make Sola initiate exchanges from the southpaw stance, counter from range, and mix in clinch work or takedowns whenever Sola becomes overly aggressive.
Sola has the greater finishing threat based on recent performances, and his offensive activity makes him dangerous if Ziam becomes too passive. Ziam has occasionally allowed close rounds to develop because of his patient approach. Against a fighter throwing at Sola's rate, giving away long stretches of cage time could become expensive on the scorecards.
Still, Ziam appears to have the slightly deeper set of tools for this specific matchup. His defensive statistics are superior, his UFC résumé is considerably longer, and his ability to switch between kickboxing and grappling should make it difficult for Sola to dictate one type of fight for all 3 rounds.
At 57¢ on Polymarket, Ziam remains my prediction. My 61% projection makes the current price playable, although the value becomes much thinner once Ziam reaches approximately 59¢. A competitive decision is the most likely outcome for the fight, with Ziam's defense, positional work, and UFC experience giving him the advantage.
