The Tampa Bay Rays and Philadelphia Phillies open a three-game series Friday night at Citizens Bank Park, with first pitch set for 6:40 p.m. ET. Freddy Peralta (9-11, 4.56 ERA) gets the start for Tampa Bay opposite Cristopher Sánchez (18-6, 2.93 ERA).
The Rays already have the AL East and No. 1 seed in the American League locked up, but the Phillies still have some work to do. Philadelphia enters the final weekend of the regular season in the third NL Wild Card spot, holding a two-game lead over Arizona for the final playoff berth.
That gives us an interesting matchup to work with Friday night, so let’s break down our Rays vs Phillies player prop predictions for September 25.
Caminero Has Hit Left-Handed Pitching Well
Caminero is batting .286 with a .424 OBP and .918 OPS against left-handed pitching this season, while striking out in just 13.6% of his plate appearances. Those numbers make the matchup with Cristopher Sánchez a little less intimidating, especially with right-handed hitters having much more success against him than lefties this year.
Sánchez's Sinker Sets Up Well for Caminero
Sánchez throws his sinker about 44% of the time overall, making it one of the pitches Caminero should see plenty of tonight. That's a good matchup for Caminero, who is batting .336 with a .580 SLG and 56.4% hard-hit rate against sinkers this season. Sánchez is obviously having a great year, but Caminero has done plenty of damage against one of his primary pitches.
There Are Several Ways to Get Over 1.5
Caminero has 33 hits, 19 runs and 18 RBIs over his last 30 games, so he's been contributing in all three categories lately. That's what I like about this prop: he doesn't need a huge game to get there. Two hits, a hit and a run, a hit and an RBI or even one solo home run would all be enough to clear 1.5.

Peralta Has Had Trouble With Left-Handed Hitters
Lefties have taken Freddy Peralta deep 17 times in 105.1 innings this season, compared to just six homers allowed to righties. He also has a 4.71 ERA and .252 batting average allowed against left-handed hitters, so they have consistently given him trouble this year. That's a good matchup for a left-handed power hitter like Schwarber.
Schwarber Has Loved Hitting at Citizens Bank Park
Schwarber has hit 28 of his 45 home runs at home this season, compared to 17 on the road. He's also slugging .592 at Citizens Bank Park, with those 28 homers coming in just 277 at-bats. That's roughly one home run every 10 at-bats at home this year.
Schwarber Has 30 Home Runs Against Righties
Schwarber has hit 30 of his 45 home runs against right-handed pitching this season, accounting for two-thirds of his total. He's also slugging .499 against righties, giving him another favorable split against Peralta tonight.

The Rays Don't Strike Out Much Against Lefties
Tampa Bay has a 17.9% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season, and that number has dropped to just 15.7% in September. The Rays have consistently put the ball in play against lefties, which could make it difficult for Sánchez to get to six strikeouts tonight.
Sánchez's Strikeout Numbers Have Dipped Recently
Sánchez has recorded five or fewer strikeouts in three of his four September starts, finishing with five against Atlanta, three against Houston and five against Washington before getting six against the Mets last time out. He has just 19 strikeouts across 24.2 innings this month, or 6.9 K/9.
The Phillies Could Be Careful With Sánchez Before the Playoffs
The Phillies still need a couple of wins to lock up their Wild Card spot, so Sánchez should get his normal workload if the game stays close. But he's also going to be a big part of their postseason rotation, and the playoffs start next week. If Philadelphia builds an early lead, there wouldn't be much reason to push Sánchez deep into the game, which could limit his chances to get to six strikeouts.

Philadelphia is priced as a 62¢ favorite on Polymarket for Friday night, compared to 39¢ for Tampa Bay. The Phillies have more to play for as they try to hold onto the final NL Wild Card spot, while the starting pitching edge with Cristopher Sánchez over Freddy Peralta is likely another big reason for the gap.
The total is set at just 6.5 runs, with the Over priced at 51¢. That low total doesn’t necessarily bode well for our Caminero and Schwarber props, but neither requires a big offensive night.
Caminero only needs two combined hits, runs and RBIs to clear his number, while one mistake from Peralta could be enough for Schwarber to leave the yard. For Sánchez, we don’t need Tampa Bay to score much to keep him Under 5.5 strikeouts — we just need the Rays to continue putting the ball in play and keep him to five punchouts or fewer.
