The Cleveland Guardians will host the Detroit Tigers in the second game of a three-game series on Wednesday evening. Cleveland took the first game of this series and moved to the top of the AL Central standings via tiebreaker as a result. The Tigers are in a tailspin and will try to avoid further collapse in the standings with a win tonight. Before the first pitch from Cleveland, continue reading to get my Tigers vs Guardians prediction.
Tanner Bibee enters with respectable stats. He has 157 strikeouts, a 1.23 WHIP, and a 4.34 ERA in 2025. He’s shown flashes of dominance, including a recent two-hit shutout. But his consistency under pressure will be tested in this high-leverage setting with the division lead on the line.
Jack Flaherty has had an up-and-down season for the Tigers. He is 8‑14 with a 4.60 ERA and his recent form is a bit shaky. In his last five starts, he’s posted a 5.04 ERA with 20 strikeouts. Comparatively, the edge goes slightly to Cleveland. Bibee’s ability to induce swings and misses and limit damage gives the Guardians a higher floor.
Cleveland is surging, going 17‑5 in September, moving them to the top of the AL Central standings. Meanwhile, Detroit has collapsed over the final stretch, losing seven straight games entering this matchup and surrendering a division lead that was once 11 games early in September. Cleveland is playing much better baseball of late and will try to keep it that way here.
Player | Prop Type | Pick |
|---|---|---|
Jack Flaherty | Strikeouts | Under 5.5 |
Tanner Bibee | Strikeouts | Over 5.5 |
Jose Ramirez | Home Runs | Over 0.5 |
Score Projection: Tigers 4 – Guardians 5
Win Probability: Tigers 48%, Guardians 52%
All of the momentum is on Cleveland's side heading into this contest. The Guardians are playing better baseball and have a slightly more consistent starting pitcher on the mound. I'll go with Cleveland to hand the Tigers their eighth straight loss and for the Guardians to move even closer to completing one of the great comebacks in MLB regular season history.
