The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 continues with a compelling Group A clash between Pakistan and the United States of America on Tuesday. Pakistan are widely regarded as one of the traditional powerhouses of the game, their star names and balanced attack making them clear favourites in this match. The USA, on the other hand, have been steadily improving and will look to build on their spirited performances, particularly the noteworthy victory against Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Before this match begins, you can find my Pakistan vs USA prediction below.
Pick: Pakistan to win ATS PRO
Confidence: ★★★★☆
This Group A fixture presents a striking contrast in experience and recent form. Pakistan arrive into this match on the back of a close but morale-boosting victory over the Netherlands in their tournament opener, where they chased down a modest total thanks to a late assault that saw Faheem Ashraf launch a rapid 29 off 11 deliveries. That triumph followed a strong pre-tournament series where Pakistan dominated Australia in a three-match T20I series, registering comfortable wins and reminding fans of their ability with both bat and ball.
The USA side, captained by Monank Patel, put in a valiant effort in their opening match against India, showing fight against a formidable Indian batting line-up before ultimately losing by 29 runs. Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Milind Kumar anchored the middle order in that game, and the USA attack showed signs of competitiveness despite the daunting challenge. The USA stunned Pakistan in the 2024 World Cup with a tie in regular play and a super over win, an upset that remains fresh in the minds of both camps and could influence tactics and psychological approaches heading into this rematch.
Weather in Colombo at the time of the match is expected to be largely clear with high humidity and negligible rain, which should allow the full 20 overs per side. High moisture in the air may contribute to dew affecting ball grip later in the evening, a factor likely to make chasing totals more attractive when the toss is won. The pitch at the Sinhalese Sports Club has shown an inclination to slow down slightly as the evening progresses, potentially offering assistance to spinners and making batting last more favourable as conditions evolve.
Saim Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan, Salman Ali Agha (captain), Babar Azam, Usman Khan (wicketkeeper), Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi, Salman Mirza, Abrar Ahmed
Andries Gous (wicketkeeper), Saiteja Mukkamalla, Monank Patel (captain), Milind Kumar, Sanjay Krishnamurthi, Shubham Ranjane, Harmeet Singh, Mohammad Mohsin, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Ali Khan, Saurabh Netravalkar
Score Projection: Pakistan 168 – USA 148 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Pakistan 75%, USA 25% ATS PRO
This match offers a classic contrast between a well-established T20 nation and an ambitious, improving associate side. Pakistan’s balanced squad and recent form make them strong favourites to get a key win in Group A, although the USA have enough quality to make phases of the contest competitive. Bettors should consider backing Pakistan with a strong probability of success, as the favourites should avenge their loss to the USA from 2024.
