The Big Ten is set for a marquee matchup on Friday when the Ohio State Buckeyes face the Michigan Wolverines at Crisler Center in Ann Arbor. This rivalry game is a big one, as Michigan comes into this contest with a top-five ranking in the country. They will try to remain there at home with a win, while Ohio State will try to pull off a memorable upset over a conference rival. Here, I break down this Big Ten rivalry game, and you can find my Ohio State vs Michigan prediction right here.
Pick: Michigan -15.5
Confidence: ★★★★☆
Michigan enters this contest as a clear favorite with a 17‑1 overall record and an impressive scoring margin that ranks among the nation’s best. The Wolverines have won multiple games in succession, including a recent road triumph at Washington and a convincing victory over Indiana. Their offense averages nearly 93 points per game while the defense holds opponents under 70 points per game, playing at an elite level on both ends of the court this season. Four players average double figures in scoring, led by Yaxel Lendeborg at 14.2 points per game.
Ohio State comes into Ann Arbor at 13‑5, coming off two straight victories, including an overtime win against Minnesota. John Mobley Jr. and Bruce Thornton have been their key scorers, with Mobley Jr. delivering strong perimeter shooting performances and Thornton contributing across scoring and rebounding categories. The Buckeyes have won three of their last four but have yet to have much success against ranked foes this year. Ohio State’s ability to stay competitive will depend on whether or not they can be effective in limiting turnovers against Michigan’s defense.
Score Projection: Michigan 88 – Ohio State 71
Win Probability: Michigan 82%, Ohio State 18%
This rivalry is set to be more competitive on the football field than it will be on the basketball court this year. Michigan is operating at another level compared to Ohio State and that should continue to be the case in this contest. I'll lay the points with the Wolverines on their home floor, as their incredible season should continue with a resounding victory.
