The Colorado Buffaloes travel to Provo, Utah to take on the BYU Cougars on Saturday. BYU enters this clash as a clear favorite thanks to a stronger overall record, national ranking, and recent offensive fireworks. Colorado comes in as an underdog seeking to disrupt expectations despite a tough stretch of results. With both teams battling for positioning in the conference standings in mid-February, you can keep reading to get my Colorado vs BYU prediction.
Pick: BYU -16.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: ★★★★☆
BYU enters this contest riding the high of a 99-94 victory over Baylor, powered by a massive performance from freshman star AJ Dybantsa, who poured in 36 points in that outing. Dybantsa, one of the nation’s leading scorers, has been a focal point for defenses throughout the Big 12, and his scoring prowess will be a huge factor in today’s game. BYU is currently ranked in the AP top 25 and has made itself a contender within the conference with an 18-6 record this season, underlining their offensive consistency. However, their recent form has been mixed, going just 1-4 over their last five outings, including losses to top-tier opponents like Arizona.
Colorado comes into this game with a record of 14-11 and has struggled to string together consistent performances, particularly on the road. Colorado’s offense is capable but has been inconsistent, and its defense has allowed opponents to score at a clip that BYU will be more than happy to test. Colorado’s roster includes promising young talent such as Isaiah Johnson, who has given the Buffs scoring, but they have had difficulty controlling games against opponents with high offensive output.
In recent matchups between these clubs, BYU holds the edge in the series and has been the more successful outfit, both straight up and against the spread. Colorado has struggled as an underdog, particularly away from home, and BYU has been dominant at home this season with a 9-2 mark. Colorado is 11-14 against the spread so far this season and BYU is 10-14 against the spread going into this matchup.
Score Projection: Colorado 69 – BYU 87 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Colorado 22%, BYU 78% ATS PRO
BYU is the clear choice in this tussle based on their offensive firepower, home court advantage, and a stronger overall resume this season. Colorado has shown flashes at times but has failed to sustain consistent play against quality opponents and on the road. Combining the Cougars’ strengths with Colorado’s relative inconsistencies points to a comfortable BYU cover of the spread. I recommend backing BYU -16.5.
