The Philadelphia Phillies open a three-game series in Milwaukee on Friday night looking to continue their climb in the National League playoff race. Philadelphia enters the game at 37-31 and has played much better over the last month, but the challenge gets much tougher against a Brewers club that owns a 41-25 record and one of the best pitching staffs in baseball.
The pitching matchup is a major storyline. Philadelphia is expected to hand the ball to Andrew Painter, who has struggled through his rookie campaign with a 1-7 record and 6.21 ERA. Milwaukee counters with Jacob Misiorowski, who has emerged as one of the breakout stars in baseball with a 7-2 record, 1.50 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and 116 strikeouts in 78 innings. That edge on the mound is difficult to ignore, especially considering the Phillies have been one of the weaker offensive clubs in the league this season.
Our Phillies vs Brewers Prediction
- Pick: Milwaukee Brewers -1.5
- Confidence: 4 out of 5
Philadelphia Phillies vs Milwaukee Brewers Model Projection
- Score Projection: Philadelphia Phillies 2 – Milwaukee Brewers 4
- Win Probability: Philadelphia Phillies 38%, Milwaukee Brewers 62%
Milwaukee enters this game with advantages across several key areas. The Brewers have been one of the best home teams in the National League, posting a 21-13 record at American Family Field. Their pitching staff owns a team ERA near the top of MLB, while the offense has produced more consistently than Philadelphia throughout the first half of the season.
The biggest factor is the starting pitching matchup. Misiorowski has allowed very little hard contact and has overwhelmed hitters with elite velocity and strikeout ability. Painter, meanwhile, has struggled with command and has allowed plenty of traffic on the bases. Against a Brewers lineup featuring William Contreras, Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, and Jake Bauers, that is a difficult recipe for Painter to overcome.
Philadelphia still has dangerous power bats led by Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper, but the overall lineup has been inconsistent. The Phillies rank near the bottom of baseball in several offensive categories, while Milwaukee continues to win games through pitching, defense, and timely hitting. Unless Painter delivers his best start of the season, Milwaukee appears to have the stronger path to victory.

Philadelphia Phillies vs Milwaukee Brewers Same Game Parlay
- Leg 1: Milwaukee Brewers Moneyline -252
- Leg 2: Under 7.5 Runs -102
- Leg 3: Jacob Misiorowski 9+ Strikeouts -110
Parlay Odds: +296
The foundation of this parlay is Misiorowski. He owns a 1.50 ERA and has struck out 116 batters in 78 innings. Philadelphia has struggled to generate offense consistently and ranks near the bottom of MLB in several hitting categories. That makes both the Brewers moneyline and the strikeout prop appealing.
The under also fits the projected game script. Milwaukee’s pitching staff owns one of the best ERAs in baseball, and Misiorowski has been dominant at limiting scoring opportunities. If Painter can provide even a respectable outing, this game has a strong chance to stay below the total.
Philadelphia Phillies vs Milwaukee Brewers Home Run Prop
Kyle Schwarber to Hit a Home Run +342
Even in a difficult matchup, Schwarber remains Philadelphia’s most dangerous power threat. He enters the series with 24 home runs and continues to rank among the league leaders in barrel rate and hard-hit percentage. One swing can change a game, and Schwarber is the Phillies hitter most capable of taking advantage of a mistake pitch.

Milwaukee owns the edge in nearly every major category entering Friday’s contest. The Brewers have been better offensively, significantly better on the mound, and hold home-field advantage. Combined with the substantial difference between Misiorowski and Painter, the data points strongly toward Milwaukee in the series opener.
The Phillies are capable of winning if Schwarber and Harper provide early offense, but asking them to solve one of the hottest young pitchers in baseball is a difficult assignment. The Brewers to cover the runline is my preferred wager, and a 4-2 Brewers victory is the most likely outcome.
