The New York Mets open a three-game road series against the San Diego Padres on Friday night at Petco Park. Both clubs enter the weekend heading in different directions. San Diego has remained in the National League playoff picture thanks to strong pitching and consistent production at home, while New York has struggled to find offensive consistency throughout the first two months of the season. The Mets will hand the ball to Christian Scott, one of the few bright spots in their rotation, while the Padres are expected to counter with Michael King. With Petco Park traditionally favoring pitchers and two quality starters set to take the mound, Mets vs Padres could be a tightly contested game featuring limited scoring opportunities.
Christian Scott has pitched well since returning to the major leagues, carrying a 2.97 ERA into this start. He has helped stabilize a Mets rotation that has dealt with injuries and inconsistent performances. However, New York's offense remains a major concern. The Mets have ranked near the bottom of MLB in several offensive categories and have struggled to generate sustained run production throughout the season.
San Diego holds the edge in overall lineup depth and enters the series with a significantly better record. Michael King has been one of the Padres' most dependable starters, posting a 4-4 record with a 3.18 ERA. His ability to miss bats and work deep into games is especially valuable against a Mets lineup that has been prone to prolonged offensive droughts.
While Scott should keep New York competitive early, the Padres' deeper lineup, home-field advantage, and stronger bullpen give them the edge over nine innings. Expect a low-scoring game that remains close into the late innings before San Diego pulls ahead.
Parlay Odds: +172
Our MLB parlay picks for this game center around San Diego's advantages in pitching and overall form. King has been one of the Padres' most reliable starters and faces a Mets offense that has struggled throughout the season. Petco Park generally suppresses offense, while King has the swing-and-miss arsenal to reach six strikeouts against a lineup that has lacked consistency.
Manny Machado to Hit a Home Run +425
Machado remains one of San Diego's premier power threats and has historically handled right-handed pitching well. Scott has pitched effectively this season, but Petco Park's dimensions have not prevented Machado from producing power numbers at home. At better than 4-to-1 odds, the value is appealing for a player capable of changing a game with one swing.

The advanced metrics don't tell the full story in this matchup. These teams are very similar in the statistics listed above, but the Mets have been abysmal on the road, going 15-15 at home and 12-20 on the road. Therefore, take the above numbers with a grain of salt, as the Padres are better positioned in this particular game.
Friday's pitching duel should keep scoring in check for much of the evening. Christian Scott gives New York a legitimate chance to compete. But the Padres have been more reliable offensively, own the stronger pitching staff, and benefit from home-field advantage at Petco Park. Michael King has consistently delivered quality outings this season and draws a favorable matchup against a Mets lineup that has struggled to support its pitching. I'll take the Padres to get the win here.
