Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees Prediction, Odds & Preview Tonight - 6/5/2026

Updated June 5, 2026
The Red Sox and Yankees renew one of baseball’s most storied rivalries on Friday night at Yankee Stadium. Entering the series opener, New York holds a significant edge in the standings with a 37-25 record while Boston has struggled to find consistency at 26-35. The Yankees have remained in the American League East race thanks to elite pitching and one of the league's most productive offenses, while the Red Sox have battled injuries and offensive inconsistency throughout the first two months of the season.
Friday's pitching matchup features veteran right-hander Sonny Gray for Boston against left-hander Ryan Weathers for New York. Gray has been excellent with a 6-1 record and 3.06 ERA, giving Boston a chance to compete despite the club's overall struggles. Weathers has quietly put together a strong season as well, posting a 3.52 ERA across 64 innings. While the starting pitching matchup appears fairly even, New York owns advantages elsewhere that have made them the favorite going into this AL East contest.
Gray gives Boston a legitimate chance to keep the game competitive, but the Yankees enter the series with superior overall numbers. New York has scored 315 runs compared to Boston's 243 and owns a substantial advantage in home runs, 89 to 44. The Yankees also carry a .329 team on-base percentage and .432 slugging percentage, both well ahead of the Red Sox.
Another factor is New York's recent pitching form. Since Gerrit Cole's return, Yankees starters have been among the most effective groups in baseball, and the club continues to receive quality outings from both the rotation and bullpen. Even with Aaron Judge sidelined, New York's lineup still features productive bats such as Ben Rice, Cody Bellinger, Jazz Chisholm Jr., and Paul Goldschmidt. Boston's offense has struggled to generate consistent run production, particularly in high-leverage situations.
The Yankees possess one of baseball's best power offenses and have a substantial edge in home-run production. Ben Rice has emerged as one of New York's most dangerous hitters, consistently producing extra-base hits. Gray should limit damage early, but both teams have enough offensive talent to push the total past 8 runs. Pairing the Yankees to win with offensive production creates an attractive same-game parlay option.
Ben Rice to Hit a Home Run +350
Rice has been one of New York's breakout performers this season, posting elite power numbers and ranking among the team's leaders in slugging percentage. Facing a veteran pitcher who relies heavily on command, Rice's ability to elevate the baseball makes him an appealing value play in the home run market.

The advanced metrics paint a clear picture going into this game. New York owns the stronger offense, superior run production, and better pitching. Boston's starting pitching keeps it competitive, particularly with Gray on the mound, but the Yankees have advantages throughout the roster even with Judge out. With New York playing at home and carrying a sizable edge in power, run differential, and overall efficiency, the Yankees are my top pick in Friday night's rivalry game.
