Two of the ACC’s strongest programs collide Saturday when Virginia travels to Durham to face Duke in this year’s ACC Tournament championship game. The Blue Devils have been one of the nation’s elite teams throughout the season and hold the inside track for the conference crown, while Virginia has put together a strong campaign under head coach Ryan Odom. There is a ton of offensive firepower on both sides of this Virginia vs Duke matchup and you will find my prediction for the game below.

Virginia vs Duke Key Storylines
- Duke barely escaped in the quarterfinals against Florida State, but they had no such problems against Clemson in the semis. The Blue Devils have had to adjust to multiple starters being out, but they are still one win away from a conference title and possibly the number-one overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
- This is a huge game for Virginia as well. They are ranked 10th in the country as of this last batch of rankings. A win in this game over the top team in the country would make them very likely to jump up into the two-seed line for the NCAA Tournament and we should see a desperate Cavaliers team because of that.
- Duke already dominated the previous meeting this season with a 26-point victory. But the pressure of a conference title game with a freshman-heavy roster could make things a little tougher for the Blue Devils this time around.
Key Players
Duke Blue Devils
- Cameron Boozer – The freshman star leads Duke with about 22.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while shooting over 57% from the field. His inside scoring and rebounding presence make him the centerpiece of the Blue Devils offense.
- Isaiah Evans – A dynamic guard who contributes roughly 14.5 points per game and provides perimeter scoring. Evans recently erupted for 32 points in an ACC tournament game, showing his ability to take over offensively.
Virginia Cavaliers
- Thijs De Ridder – Virginia’s leading scorer at roughly 16 points and over 6 rebounds per game. His efficient scoring and physical play make him the Cavaliers’ most reliable offensive option.
- Dallin Hall – The point guard averages about 4.2 assists per game and boasts one of the best assist-to-turnover ratios in the conference, helping keep Virginia’s offense organized. That will be essentially against arguably the best team in college basketball.

Virginia vs Duke Pick & Model Projection
- Score Projection: Virginia 68 – Duke 79 ATS PRO
- Pick: Duke -8.5 ATS PRO
- Confidence: 3 out of 5 ATS PRO
- Win Probability: Virginia 28%, Duke 72% ATS PRO
Duke has been one of the most complete teams in college basketball this season. The Blue Devils combine elite scoring efficiency with a defense that allows fewer than 63 points per game. Their ability to score inside through Cameron Boozer and stretch the floor with shooters creates major problems for opponents.
Virginia’s defensive system can slow games down and limit easy baskets, but the Cavaliers struggled badly in the earlier meeting between these teams. Duke controlled that game from start to finish, shooting nearly 50% from the field while holding Virginia below 30%. Unless the Cavaliers find significantly better perimeter shooting, it will be difficult to keep pace.
The absence of Caleb Foster slightly reduces Duke’s depth in the backcourt, but the Blue Devils still possess enough firepower and size to control the paint and dictate this game. Expect Virginia to keep the score competitive for the first half, yet Duke’s offensive firepower should help them pull away late. I’ll lay the points with Duke with the ACC title on the line.
