- The Aces are playing for the second night in a row, which should negatively impact them on defense more than it does on offense.
- Dearica Hamby and the Sparks should be able to muster some offense, even if we don’t expect them to get many stops against the Aces.
On Friday night, the Los Angeles Sparks will host the Las Vegas Aces in a unique scheduling spot for the two-time defending champs. Vegas is playing for the second night in a row here and they will hope to overcome that to get a second win in as many nights. Here, we make our WNBA betting picks for Aces vs Sparks, as the Sparks look to upset the champs in LA.
This game will be played at crypto.com Arena at 10:00 PM ET on Friday, July 5, 2024.
Las Vegas Aces
Heading into Friday night, the Las Vegas Aces have won six games in a row. They are now 12-6 and in fifth place in the WNBA standings. But while they are playing their best basketball of the season of late, they are facing a tough scheduling spot tonight. They have to play for the second night in a row, hitting the road for this Aces vs Sparks matchup that could be tougher than anticipated, even if the Aces are double-digit favorites.
Fortunately for the Aces, they blew the Washington Mystics out last night. That allowed them to rest their starters late in that game, even if key players like A’ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum still had to go out there and deliver for a while. We will see if that helps at all in this back-to-back spot, or if the Aces will come out on tired legs regardless.
Los Angeles Sparks
This season has been a nightmare for the LA Sparks, who enter tonight’s game with a record of 4-15, the second-worst mark in the WNBA. With the team losing games and star rookie Cameron Brink out for the season with a knee injury, the Sparks are simply playing out the second half of their season. But they have a chance to pull off a monumental upset over the Aces tonight and we will see if they can rise to the occasion on their home floor.
Of course, the history of Dearica Hamby and the Aces organization is well-documented. Hamby has averaged 23.5 points per game against the Aces in two meetings this season. If Los Angeles is going to have any shot of upsetting the Aces tonight, Hamby is going to need to have another huge night against her former team.
