The Golden State Valkyries and New York Liberty meet Thursday night in a matchup with major implications near the top of the WNBA standings. Golden State enters the game at 27-11 and will be playing on the second night of a back-to-back after defeating Connecticut on Wednesday, while New York is 23-15 and looking to continue their home winning streak. The matchup is also a rematch of a series the Valkyries have controlled this season, making Thursday's contest an important opportunity for the Liberty to reverse that trend before the postseason.
Polymarket currently has the Liberty as 58% favorites and the Valkyries as 43% underdogs in Thursday night's game. The pricing reflects New York's home-court advantage and the additional rest advantage it holds over a Golden State team coming off Wednesday's game. However, the Valkyries have already demonstrated that they can match up extremely well with New York, making the market pricing particularly interesting for this matchup.

The biggest challenge facing Golden State is the schedule. The Valkyries are completing their first back-to-back of the season, traveling to New York after playing Connecticut on Wednesday. Golden State did receive an encouraging performance from its bench in the 89-64 win over the Sun, with the reserves setting a franchise record for bench points. Still, facing a rested Liberty team on the road presents a significantly tougher test. The Valkyries will need their defensive intensity to remain high despite the compressed turnaround.
Thursday's game carries substantial postseason significance. Golden State has positioned itself near the top of the standings at 27-11, while New York sits at 23-15 and is fighting to improve its position in the crowded playoff race. The matchup could also serve as a preview of a potential playoff meeting, adding another layer of importance.
New York has recently strengthened its rotation with the return of Leonie Fiebich, while Sabrina Ionescu is healthy and expected to be a key part of the Liberty's effort to solve Golden State's defense. The question is whether that will be enough against a Golden State team that has dominated New York so far in 2026.
Golden State has already won both meetings with New York this season, including an 87-70 victory on May 21. The Valkyries have been especially effective at limiting the Liberty's offense, holding New York to season-low scoring totals of 70 and 67 points in the first two matchups.
That defensive success will be tested again Thursday, particularly against a Liberty offense that can attack mismatches and create open three-point opportunities. If Golden State can maintain its defensive discipline despite playing on consecutive nights, it has a chance to complete the season sweep and strengthen its case as one of the WNBA's elite teams.
