While Howard and Sabally being out is certainly bad news for the Wings, they still have Teaira McCowan to lean on in the paint. McCowan is averaging 14.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game early in the year and she should be even more impactful splitting paint touches with only Kalani Brown for the most part. If McCowan and Arike Ogunbowale can produce in unison in this Wings vs Mercury game, Dallas could win outright as an underdog here.
Phoenix Mercury
The Phoenix Mercury have been excellent to start this season, going 3-1 and turning some heads along the way. They went 1-1 against the Las Vegas Aces in their two early-season matchups, while beating the Atlanta Dream and Washington Mystics at home. Here, the Mercury are favorites for the second game in a row and they will look to win their fourth game out of five to begin this year.
How the guards for this Mercury team have worked together despite not having much time to play together has been very impressive. Kahleah Copper has been the number one scorer in the WNBA to this point in this season, while Natasha Cloud has been her typical all-around contributing self, and Diana Taurasi has made room for both to play major roles. While their bigs are not great right now, the Mercury are working well together and their vets could help them get another win here.
