- The Connecticut Sun have been the best defensive team in the WNBA this year, holding opponents under 71 points per game on the season.
- The Aces do have Chelsea Gray back, but her minutes are limited, which will play a role in determining the outcome and margin in this one.
One of the best games of the night in terms of sheer quality in the world of sports on Friday night will be the matchup between the Connecticut Sun and Las Vegas Aces. Both teams in this game have legitimate title aspirations in 2024, as several Olympians are set to take the floor for their respective teams tonight. Here, we give you our WNBA betting picks for Sun vs Aces from Las Vegas, a game we could see later this year in the WNBA Finals.
This game will be played at Mohegan Sun Arena at 10:00 PM ET on Friday, June 21, 2024.
Connecticut Sun
So far this WNBA season, no team has been better than the Connecticut Sun. The Sun enter Friday’s action with a record of 13-1, a full game ahead of the New York Liberty for first place in the WNBA standings. Tonight, though, the Sun might face their toughest test of the 2024 season as they are on the road against the two-time defending champion Aces.
The key to this Sun vs Aces matchup for Connecticut is going to be perimeter defense. A’ja Wilson is almost always going to get hers from the mid-range and in the paint. But if the Aces can make Jackie Young or Kelsey Plum (or both) struggle from the outside in this game, they could very well win this one outright and make a huge statement that their title candidacy is legitimate in 2024.
Las Vegas Aces
It has been a mediocre start to the year for the Las Vegas Aces, as they enter tonight’s action with a record of 7-6. However, the Aces are expected to be much better moving forward, now that they have starting point guard Chelsea Gray back in action. Vegas won Gray’s first game of the season by double-digits against the Seattle Storm earlier this week and will look for a similar result tonight.
For Las Vegas, the question entering this matchup is how to match the defensive energy and intensity of the Sun for 40 minutes. This is not the same Sun team as years past that lacked consistent scoring from a spot or two on the floor. As a result, the Aces need to play their best game of the season on the defensive end of the floor to get a second straight win and keep themselves above the .500 mark for the year.
