- The Storm have won eight straight home games after dropping their season opener at home to the Minnesota Lynx.
- The Sky are good at controlling the glass but the Storm are one of the few teams in the league with enough size to challenge them in that department.
Perhaps the most interesting game of the night in the WNBA on Friday is the matchup between the Chicago Sky and Seattle Storm. Chicago is in the hunt for a playoff spot thanks to their play in the paint, which they will look to use to slow down a Seattle team that is looking more and more like a championship contender as the season wears on. Here, we make our WNBA predictions for Sky vs Storm from Seattle.
This game will be played at Climate Pledge Arena at 10:00 PM ET on Friday, July 5, 2024.
Chicago Sky
The Chicago Sky hold a record of 7-11 going into Friday’s WNBA action, which is good for eighth in the league standings. For a young team like Chicago to be in position to make the playoffs so early in the new era of their franchise is definitely a positive. But tonight will be a tough test on the road against a Seattle Storm team that is one of the best in the W at defending their home floor.
The recipe for success for the Sky is no different in this game than it has been all season long. If Chicago can control the glass and get second chance points, they could pull off the upset in tonight’s Sky vs Storm matchup. But that is easier said than done against a Storm team that has the kind of frontcourt size and physicality that should be able to compete with the likes of Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso at the rim.
Seattle Storm
The Seattle Storm have won four games in a row going into tonight’s matchup with the Chicago Sky. They are 13-6 overall and sit in fourth place in the WNBA standings. Seattle has to keep winning games in order to put pressure on the other teams in the top-five with home-court advantage early in the playoffs a consideration even at the midpoint of the regular season. Tonight, the Storm are heavy favorites against the young Sky, but nothing is guaranteed in the W.
Limiting second-chance points will be the key to this game for the Storm. Chicago is not a team that consistently hurts its opponents from three-point range, as Chicago ranks dead-last in three-point shooting percentage. If the Storm can prevent the Sky from getting extra shots at the rim, Seattle could run away with this game for their ninth straight home victory.
