- Chicago has been dominant on the glass to start the season and should be even more so with Kamilla Cardoso set to make her season debut on Saturday.
- Temi Fagbenle is out with an injury for the Fever, while Erica Wheeler is also questionable due to personal reasons, leaving a Fever team that lacks depth in an even worse spot than usual.
There is only one game on the WNBA schedule on Saturday and it is a marquee matchup. Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will host Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky in a battle of two teams that feature some of the most beloved rookies in the history of the league. But there is a lot more to like than Clark and Reese in what should be a very good game from Indianapolis. Here, we give you our WNBA betting picks for Sky vs Fever from Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
This game will be played at 12:00 PM ET at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
Chicago Sky
The Chicago Sky are 3-3 going into Saturday, sitting in eighth place in the league standings. Chicago’s last game was a convincing victory over the LA Sparks, a game in which Marina Mabrey had a breakout performance with 20 points, including six made threes. Mabrey’s performance will be key again in this Sky vs Fever matchup, but the play in the paint for Chicago could be the ultimate difference-maker in this one.
Chicago may have Kamilla Cardoso ready to make her season debut in this game after a shoulder injury kept her out of action to begin the season. Combining Cardoso with Elizabeth Williams and Angel Reese, who have been excellent in the frontcourt for the Sky early in the season, could make them one of the most dangerous teams in the league in terms of their size. That could come in handy against a Fever team without much interior presence beyond Aliyah Boston.
Indiana Fever
The Indiana Fever are off to a sluggish start to this year in the WNBA, posting a record of 1-8 through their first nine games. While some of the struggles for Indiana are related to their schedule, which has been brutal early in the season, their lack of depth has also been a glaring concern. And with a couple of key pieces potentially out for this game, the foursome of Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, and NaLyssa Smith may be asked to do too much in this nationally televised game.
We know that Temi Fagbenle will be out for the Fever with a foot injury, which is a shame for Indiana given that she worked her way into the starting lineup with her inspired early-season play. But the Fever could also be without Erica Wheeler due to personal reasons. That would shift even more of the scoring responsibility onto the aforementioned group of four for the Fever, which could go poorly against a Sky team that can get production from so many more options.
